What are the responsibilities and job description for the Respiratory Therapist position at Indiana Internal Medicine Consultants?
ENVIRONMENT : Outpatient, clinical care setting
GENERAL SUMMARY OF DUTIES : Provides respiratory therapy or pulmonary function testing for patients in the office setting.
DUTIES PERFORMED :
- Constantly performs routine cardiopulmonary assessment.
- Constantly performs pulmonary function studies and other testing as ordered by a medical provider or new patient protocol.
- Frequently provides oxygen assessment as ordered or emergently.
- Frequently administers respiratory treatments including demonstrating new treatment set-up, peak-flow monitoring, and MDI with spacer.
- Occasionally attends to patients in respiratory or cardiac arrest along with Code Team.
- Frequently orders home oxygen, respiratory supplies, and home nebulizers and medication in compliance with the patient's insurance or patient's request.
- Occasionally prepares and administers injections.
- Occasionally provides coverage in the Pulmonary Rehab department.
- Constantly maintains and updates office records, reports and files.
- Constantly maintains and troubleshoots issues with equipment.
- Occasionally schedules PMs for equipment and orders supplies
- Occasionally attends required meetings
- Constantly preserves patient confidentiality.
- Performs other duties within the limit of their state license.
- Enhances professional growth through education programs, conferences, workshops and CE credits.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS : Work requires manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination for operation and repair of x-ray equipment. Occasionally lifts and carries items / patients weighing up to 350 pounds, and places them in appropriate positions for operation of equipment. Requires manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer for inputting data, telephone, and copy / fax machine. Requires normal or corrected visual acuity and hearing. Ability to understand and effectively work in Microsoft Outlook, practice management systems, and electronic medical record system.
TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS : Work is performed in a clinical environment. Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical environment. Work may be stressful at times. Interaction with others is constant and interruptive. Frequent contact involves dealing with sick people.
