Job Summary
Responsible for performing inspections and conducting tests, determining improvement standards of plant radiological performance, and for assessing and assuring plant radiological performance and regulatory compliance of the plant Radiation Protection Program.Relocation assistance may be available if necessary.
Job Description
- Evaluate Radiation Protection procedures for technical accuracy, based on regulatory requirements.
- Review and assist with providing direction for plant work in relation to time, skills, radiation exposure, materials, and equipment.
- Assist with the analysis of work schedules to establish the most efficient use of equipment, facilities, personnel resources, and radiation exposure.
- Analyze tasks to assure that individual and collective exposure ionizing radiation is maintained As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA).
- Assist with test procedures and assist with the calibration of test and process equipment.
- Develop and promote the establishment of standard practices and procedures for the implementation of the Radiation Protection Program.
- Provide health physics assistance to the plant organization as required.
- Implement technical specifications and regulatory codes to maintain licensing and assure safe radiological operation.
- Provide surveillance for the Radiation Protection Program for purpose of assessing the level of performance.
- Support and participate in the Emergency Plan Organization and Corrective Action Program activities as assigned and in accordance with procedures and policies applicable for the assigned role.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in health physics or a related science or engineering discipline.
Work Experience:
- At least six years of professional experience in health physics.
Required License/Certification:
- Received certification by the American Board of Health Physics (ABHP) as a Certified Health Physicist.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- Physical demand level is Light (exerting up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally, or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects).
- Perform duties that may involve work in hazardous areas and possible radiation exposure within the limits prescribed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC).
Must establish and maintain a permanent residence within a 45-minute safe drive time to the D.C. Cook Nuclear Power Plant.
