Indiana Nephrology & Internal Medicine, P.C. is currently seeking a referral coordinator who will also function as a front desk specialist. They must be prepared to meet the challenge of providing the best quality of patient care at our East location.
A critical member of our collaborative care team, the Referral Coordinator acts as the first contact a patient has with our office and uses sound judgement to coordinate referrals incoming patients while always demonstrating our organizational purpose and values.
The Referral Coordinator accurately and efficiently performs the following duties as well as others as requested:
Processing incoming referrals for providers, prioritizes referrals by following and applying standard policies, procedures, and protocol. Ensures that patients receive their appointment in a timely manner ensuring patients are always cleared for their appointment prior to their arrival. Enters progress notes and other pertinent information into the electronic medical record based on application of practices and procedures. Previous EMR experience preferred. Acumen/ Epic EMR experience a plus.
Cross over Front Office/Clerical duties include Checking patients in/out, scheduling appointments, collecting co-payments, and scanning. Must be dependable, organized, and have good communication skills.
Duties:
- Responsible for answering all incoming calls
- Ensure that referrals are addressed in a timely manner.
- Ensure complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information.
- Gather patient health records pertaining to the reason for referral, scan/upload records into patient’s medical record.
- Data Entry.
- Schedule incoming referrals by following new patient protocols.
- Review details and expectations about the appointment with patients.
- Enters scheduled appointment information into electronic medical record for referring provider office to view.
- Assist patients in problem solving potential issues related to the health care system, financial or social barriers (e.g., request interpreters as appropriate, transportation services or prescription assistance).
- Identify and utilize cultural and community resources. Establish and maintain relationships with identified service providers.
- Be the system navigator and point of contact for patients and families, with patients and families having direct access for asking questions and raising concerns before their new patient appointment.
- Ensure that chart/patient is HIPAA compliant
- Monitor clinic schedules to ensure providers schedules are full and have no gaps.

- Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma
- Graduate of an accredited school of medical assisting course or certified nursing certificate.
- 3 years of experience working in a healthcare practice, medical office or hospital
- Excellent Customer Service Skills & Presentation
- Good communication & language skills
- High level of professionalism
- Strong Critical Thinking
- Ability to work independently with strong attention to detail
- Requires working knowledge of medical terminology
- Good computer & problem-solving skills
- Ability to interact with physicians, providers, and patients in a very fast paced environment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency with EMR systems and software applications (Epic/Acumen), including Microsoft Office Suite
