Job Summary
This work will put the position in regular contact with units across campus to bring their insights to the development and implementation of these structures.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Support the development and implementation of initiatives that increase study abroad participation.
- Assess the needs of prospective study abroad students.
- Implement initiatives that may include email campaigns, study abroad fairs, presentations, information sessions, student and alumni panels, and other innovative approaches.
- Advise prospective study abroad students on program options, application procedures, participation requirements, available scholarships and aid.
- Serve as the primary advisor within the Study Abroad Office with responsibility to staff posted office hours.
- Support students exploring non-IU programs and helping them navigate the credit preapproval process, completing the necessary steps to access to financial aid, and maintaining their IU student status.
- Support recipients of the Office of International Affairs Study Abroad Planning grant recipients of the Office of International Affairs Study Abroad Planning grant.
- Support students who have never traveled before and who may need additional guidance while preparing to travel internationally.
- Oversee the Study Abroad Office scholarship portfolio, including recruiting applicants, development of support structures for applicants, and managing the university financial aid systems.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of initiatives, use feedback to modify and, if necessary, redesign them. This will include looking at scholarship structures and determining the effectiveness of their designs to increase study abroad participation.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of projects designed to encourage study abroad.
- Represent the Study Abroad Office and / or Office of International Affairs on relevant committees. (e.g. campus-wide orientation committee).
- Support the design and implementation of recruitment initiatives and support students throughout the life cycle of their study abroad participation.
- Promote study abroad to the campus community by organizing and leading activities for the campus community as a whole, as well as activities targeted to specific audiences and their needs.
- Provide advising and mentoring to prospective study abroad students.
- Engage in orientations for those preparing to study abroad as well as sharing the responsibility of responding to crises that occur on study abroad programs to promote emergency preparedness.

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
