Job Summary

This position is within Treasury Operations in the Office of the Treasurer. The Finance Specialist is primarily responsible for initiating and verifying daily banking transactions while working with internal and external customers.

Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Manages signature delegation, including maintaining and updating the delegation log to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Completes research requests from departments, troubleshoots issues, and coordinates with banking partners to resolve issues.
  • Assists departments in completing Automated Clearing House (ACH) forms for vendor payments.
  • Updates wire fee spreadsheet daily for any domestic or international wire sent out by Treasury.
  • Creates and maintains dashboards to track banking and credit card merchant activities, including volumes, fees, expenses, data usage, etc.
  • Sends returned check notifications to departments and ensures proper completion of general ledger documentation.
  • Maintains the cash worksheet by using knowledge of Excel formulas and being proficient with financial data.
  • Sends notifications to area banks to identify and address any unauthorized bank accounts.
  • Responds to department inquiries about banking systems and troubleshoots issues.
  • Calculates and distributes bank fees.
  • Troubleshoots, programs, tracks, and trains staff on banking systems and hardware.
  • Reviews documentation from credit card merchants.

General Responsibilities

  • Performs routine independent analysis of daily cash flows, cash payments, interest charges and earnings, and other financial and cash flows metrics.
  • Reconciles account statements and cash transactions; troubleshoots and corrects basic and moderately complex errors, escalating more complex errors as needed.
  • Serves as a liaison to external funding sources and ensures organizational accounts maintain compliance with applicable standards.
  • Reviews investment reports and assists in performing accounting entries.
  • Responds to employee inquiries and requests and explains fiscal policies and procedures.
  • May assist in the review and preparation of documents related to the bond issuance process.
  • May provide assistance to Finance Assistants.
  • May provide organizational treasury training.
  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, business, or a related field
  • WORK EXPERIENCE

    Required

  • 2 years in a relevant field
  • Preferred

  • 2 years of finance, accounting, or business experience (preferably in public higher education)

  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
  • Certified Treasury Professional (CTP)
  • Accredited ACH Professional (AAP)
  • Accredited Payments Risk Professional (APRP)

  • Ability to mine data from multiple sources and integrate into usable formats
  • Ability to clearly present material and make it accessible to a variety of audiences
  • Working Conditions / Demands

    This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

    Work Location

    Bloomington, Indiana

    This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.

    Advertised Salary

    57,000 - $60,000 annually, depending upon qualifications
