Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Responsible for the design and writing of research projects in the areas of dental hard-tissue conditions (dental caries, erosive tooth wear and others), in alignment to the research interests of the Oral Health Research Institute at the IU School of Dentistry (OHRI-IUSD)
- Pursues external funding as Principal Investigator (PI) and / or Co-PI or Co-I
- Conducts laboratory and clinic research experiments, including but not limited to the conduct of routine analyses in the areas of fluoride, caries, erosive tooth wear, abrasion, and stain removal research as needed
- Reports on research activities in writing and disseminates findings (publication and / or presentations at meetings)
- Directs and mentors others (e.g., undergraduate, graduate, post-graduate students, visiting scholars) in research practices
- Develops innovative dental research programs in areas aligned with the mission of OHRI, IUSD
- Represents the OHRI-IUSD in dental research standard organizations (e.g., ISO, ADA, IADR)
- Responsible for laboratory equipment, materials, labor and support of operations
- Performs cost analyses and recommends budgets
- Provides routine professional support of protocols / plans, documentation, observation and data collection

This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
