Job Summary
The Underserved Community Outreach Specialist develops and support a statewide network of multiple language Child Passenger Safety Technicians and advocates and coordinate statewide training´s, campaigns, and projects to increase bilingual child passenger safety initiatives for children, birth through adolescence. The Underserved Community Outreach Specialist monitors the standardized Child Passenger Safety Technician process for multiple language technicians, including the coordination of all standardized Child Passenger Safety training´s, developed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, with multiple language participants and develops systems for technical updates.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Manages and recruits outreach coordinators and organizations in underserved communities throughout Indiana.
- Provides leadership and technical support to child passenger safety technicians and instructors; acts as a resource for the certification / recertification process.
- Serves as a liaison with the national certifying body, Safe Kids Worldwide; promote certification and recertification opportunities; recruits instructors and technician candidates for standardized courses.
- Plans statewide trainings (travel), including the National Child Passenger Safety Technician Training Program, the Renewal Course, School Bus Training and regional Refresher Courses.
- Plans implements and evaluate statewide and local child passenger safety projects and events such as : National Child Passenger Safety Week check-up events and other car seat clinics.
- Coordinates and / or staffs health fairs and exhibits; processes funding agreements and reimbursements.
- Provides education to the public, organizations, legislators, Department of Child Services, law enforcement, EMS and firefighters et cetera; instructs the National Child Passenger Safety
- Provides training; maintains instructors status; develops audience-specific educational presentations and materials.
- Provides one on one consultations with families; produces quarterly newsletters; assist with social media communications plan.
- Stays current through conferences, meetings, workshops, listserv, websites, and other appropriate avenues.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
This position will require travel mostly in state, but some out of state travel as well.
