Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Serves within a team of advising/career professionals in a major cluster area in University College that provides targeted programming, intervention and success strategies to assist students and promote their transition into degree granting schools and Programs.
- Assists the cluster in the development, implementation and evaluation of cluster initiatives, Programs, events, resources and outreach related to the success of students within the cluster.
- Guides UC students by providing individual and group career advising and appropriate referrals for academic advising.
- Teaches UCOL-U210, a course that assists students in career exploration.
- Provides ongoing leadership and training on career matters to colleagues.
- Provides programming and resources for UC students.
- Connects to campus career services colleagues, Includes providing information on cluster fields, training of cluster staff, and serving as liaison to schools and units.
- Assesses training and information sharing needs of cluster in regard to career development.
- Provides general education on career development for cluster and faculty.
- Communicates with school staff and nurture these relationships.
- Identifies and collaborates with faculty champions.
- Identifies professional organizations for fields in cluster and share list with advisors and students.
- Serves as a resource to schools as a source of important information.
- Actively participates in Career Services Council.
- Tracks learning outcomes and regularly communicate to cluster.
- Provides individual and group career advising to undergraduate students and provides appropriate referrals for academic advising.
- Supports engaging students in goal setting; supporting at-risk students; reviews and maintains student records; email communications, etc.
- Meets with students individually and in small groups.
- Understands the student population of cluster.
- Assists with STAR mentoring.
- Utilizes appropriate technology and resources to inform daily practice.
- Reviews, prepares and maintains student records.
- Works to encourage student participation in meetings and career development programming.
- Promptly records and submits notes, with appropriate tags, in AdRx following student meetings.
- Promptly notes no-show and cancelled appointments in AdRx following student meetings.
- Supports designing, delivering, and evaluating Programs, events, and resources, teaching as appropriate.
- Refers students to the various resources/events.
- Brainstorms, research, designs, and experiments with new modes of communication including visual aids, outreach, and helpful tips.
- Assesses programming needs of cluster and revise these projects, resources, and events as needed.
- Facilitates planning for projects, resources, and events.
- Assists with professional and career development of students and alumni through career assessments, exploration, decision-making, goal setting, and planning.
- Focuses efforts on resume building, interview skill development, mock interview, and job search preparation and navigation, graduate school application and interview preparation through counseling appointments and consultations.
- Develops and delivers workshops on career development which include networking strategies, interviewing, resume and cover letter writing skills, portfolio development, and using the internet for career search.
- Supports faculty and students with career exploration, internships, job shadow experiences, presentations, and facilitation of resources available for career development.
- Serves on various community and institutional committees to build partnerships across the university and among comparable universities to build knowledge base.
- Assists in the process of collecting and tracking data for office assessment purposes. Utilizes data to assist in the creation of office objectives and goals to meet the needs of the student population.
- Works through issues with a variety of stakeholders: students, employers, alumni, and faculty. Identifies and capitalizes on connections between groups of stakeholders and leverage those connections in unique ways through events and interactions
- Provides guidance and delegate administrative tasks to other career services staff.
- Processes recommendations for improved operational efficiency.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in business or related field
- Master's degree in related field
