Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Works closely with the dean to advance relationships to benefit the school and its mission.
- Reports to the dean and serving on the school's leadership team.
- Directs the development and alumni relations team delivering on a goal of about $6 million annually, divided between individual philanthropy (a goal of about $2 million annually set in partnership with IU Foundation) and institutional philanthropy (about $4 million annually).
- Leads key international partnerships that promise to open and fund new areas of research and scholarly collaboration in service to the school's international strategic goals.
- Be a curious and collegial team player with a deep interest in philanthropic trends, including the global context. Collaborating closely with the school's Board of Visitors and directing the staffing of the body, the ED will mentor staff and volunteers to advance the school's ambition at the forefront of its field.
- Provides highest level of operational leadership and coordination of assigned staff members to define development methodologies and standards; provides direction and guidance on high priority development projects/initiatives.
- Establishes short-term business plans and long-term operational objectives, including managing project timelines/deliverables and developing resource plans for multi-project/multi-phase prospective donor identification and cultivation.
- Conducts a variety of personnel actions to include, but not limited to hiring, promotion, performance management, and dismissal.
- Serves as the unit liaison collaborating with internal and external stakeholder groups, cultivating relationships, and providing organizational information and representing the interests of the unit.
- Manages high level assignments and allocation of resources, including negotiating and coordinating proposals and initiatives that may involve staff in other departments/areas/teams; may coordinate large-scale development projects with a wide audiences in support of departmental/institutional initiatives.
- Advises institutional or divisional leadership on development priorities and program updates.
- Researches and stays up-to-date on new development industry standards, regulations, and institutional policies; responsible for the implementation of new protocols/procedures to address business needs.
- Makes budgetary recommendations/proposals based on resource needs and ensures cost containment.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 4 years experience in fundraising/development, sales, communications, public relations, a higher education foundation, or related field
- 1 year of management experience
- Extensive experience engaging leading philanthropies in crafting creative funding opportunities.
