The IU School of Medicine (IUSM) Research Administration office oversees all of the business operations (budget, finance, tracking initiatives, purchasing, reporting, etc.) for the Executive Associate Dean for Research.
The Research Administration office also provides business operations and consultation or leadership for all of the school-wide cores and centers and serves as a central research liaison with IU central offices for the school. With over 500,000 square feet of research space, IU School of Medicine received over $500 million in calendar year 2023 and ranks 13th in the country in National Institutes of Health funding among public medical schools.

Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary expert in training grants for IUSM.
- Responsible for developing and maintaining a comprehensive tracking system for training grant data, as well as collecting and inputting relevant information.
- Support both current and future training grant applications, ensuring the timely submission of required tables to the NIH.
- Extract relevant data and match publications between faculty and trainees.
- Communicate directly with Principal Investigator (PI) and research teams to meet their needs.
- Access NIH xTRACT for renewal application submission.
- Build and maintain an interactive and easily updated database for training grants.
- Track T32 trainees in their career progression for T32 progress reports and data tables.
- Sit in on training grant related meetings with all IUSM departments.
- Manage medium to large projects, from start to finish, ensuring on time completion within budget.
- Develop project plan(s) and efficiently analyze, track, forecast, and report on project metrics and shortfalls.
- Coordinate and facilitate efforts of project team(s) consisting of various staff and hourly employees.
- Communicate ongoing changes in tasks, goals, or performance.
- Collaborate to ensure that project objectives are achieved within established time frames.
- Participate in client meetings, vendor/contract decisions, and development of project requirements and specifications.
- May provide guidance and support to less experienced peers.
EDUCATION
Required
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field
WORK EXPERIENCE
- 2 years of relevant experience
- Experience in pre- or post-award management
Preferred
- Certified Research Administrator (CRA)
