LABORATORY ANIMAL RESOURCES (IN-LARS-IUINA)

  • Monitors animals' responses to anesthetics.
  • Responds appropriately to anesthetic changes with appropriate knowledge of drugs and medical interventions.
  • Performs euthanasia to animals according to AVMA Guidelines, under the direction of a veterinarian and other regulations, policies, or guidelines, and monitor animals' responses to anesthetics so that dosages can be adjusted.
  • Executes prompt examination of animals reported with health problems.
  • Adheres to all appropriate SOPs, Research Compliance directives, accreditation standards, regulations and laws.
  • Maintains accurate record keeping with electronic or paper medical records.
  • Develops excellent veterinary technician skills.
  • Maintains controlled substance inventory and related log books.

Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.

EDUCATION

Required

  • Associate's degree in veterinary technology, biology, animal science, or related field

Required

WORK EXPERIENCE

  • 1 year of animal care experience

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES

Preferred

  • Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) within 1 year from date of hire
  • Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) upon date of hire

The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
