Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) invites applications for two Custodial Worker 1 positions at the Indiana main campus.
The Custodial Worker 1 cleans, disinfects and maintains all vertical and horizontal surfaces. Requires the ability to learn the materials, methods and practices used in custodial work such as scrub, wax, polish floors, woodwork and furniture; empty wastebaskets and dispose of accumulated trash; wash and polish windows’ clean lavatory and replace supplies; sweep walks and keep entrance ways clean and free of debris. Other duties as assigned. Sufficient physical strength to work at custodial tasks which require physical mobility such as bending, stooping, walking, reaching, climbing, lifting, pushing, and pulling.

Position Qualifications
MINIMUM EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:
- No previous experience and training required.
REQUIRED SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:
- Candidates must communicate effectively and perform well in the interview(s).
- Candidates must have communication skills and cross-cultural abilities to maximize their effectiveness with diverse groups of students, colleagues, and community members.
The salary for this position is determined by the AFSCME Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Essential Functions
This position is heavily involved in outdoor activity and has periods of heavy exertion. Incumbents must have the following abilities:
- Communicate both orally and in writing to issue, receive and carry out instructions and orders effectively and to convey information to a variety of co-workers and the public.
- Work in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat, cold, rain, wind, dust, and snow for extended hours in response to emergency conditions.
- Work in, on, and around hazardous situations such as: active heavy equipment, traffic, heights, steep grades, ladders, and uneven surfaces.
- Use hand tools such as hammers and pry bars; and take and transport material samples.
- Withstand exposure to chemical agents, exhaust gases and lubricants, solvents, poisonous plants, animals, and insects; and sustain potential injuries such as bruises, scrapes, cuts, strains, and sprains.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, bend, stretch, and prolonged sitting or standing.
- Wear various types of required protective gear/equipment such as a hard hats, footgear, hearing and eye protection, gloves, and respirators.
- Ability to travel to field locations and meeting/training sites by motor vehicle when required.
- Perform manual duties such as lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
- Provide assistance and guidance to internal and external customers.
