Job Title: Baseball Communications Coordinator Status: Full Time

Job Summary:
Serves as the primary baseball contact and clubhouse information resource for the Indianapolis Indians. Specialize in compiling and distributing informative, year-round news about the organization and Victory Field with a heavy emphasis placed on clubhouse/baseball elements. Generate positive publicity by building and maintaining relationships while servicing key media. Serve as liaison between Indians clubhouse personnel and front office staff. Work closely with all other communication contacts within the Pirates organization and International League.
Responsibilities:
- Lead in execution of daily in-season game notes, box scores, home and road game summaries, and official statistics, as well as production of the media guide
- Pitch clubhouse-related stories to media; coordinate interview requests with players and coaches; write and distribute press releases
- Manage and schedule press box statistical staff members; ensure proper training for stringer, DakStats and clock operators
- Develop and maintain targeted distribution lists of local and regional media contacts; oversee day-to-day and seasonal credentialing
- Lead the hiring and development of department interns
- Serve as leading voice of baseball content within Indians social media strategy; post all clubhouse information to include lineups, in-game updates and recaps
- Oversee baseball-related content on IndyIndians.com, including press releases and feature stories
- Proof/edit internal and external publications and materials for proper spelling, grammar and style
- Coordinate news and information distribution with Major League affiliate (Pittsburgh Pirates); maintain open communication channels with all Pirates affiliates and International League public relations staffs
- Act as liaison between clubhouse personnel (i.e. players, field staff) and Indians front office members to ensure clear communication and coordination
- Execute offseason tasks (ex: build historical photo archives on digital server, research miscellaneous statistics to enhance media guide)
Other Duties:
- Work in tandem with the director of communications on developing both internal and external communications strategies
- Collaborate with Indians staff members to achieve effective marketing/communications for the organization
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, public relations or related field and 2-4 years related experience preferably in a sports environment. Applicants should have a demonstrated writing ability and strong knowledge of baseball scoring and statistics. Ability to work nights, weekends and holidays as required.
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a knowledge of AP writing style
Ability to take knowledge and transform it into exciting and useful messages for targeted distribution
Sincere commitment to work collaboratively with all constituent groups, including staff, board members, media and other supporters
Results driven individual with the ability to multitask and meet deadlines in a stressful environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office and InDesign; working knowledge of Photoshop, HTML and experience with CMS websites
Compensation:
Salary commensurate with experience, plus bonus structure (when eligible)
