Job Summary
The Special Education Paraprofessional is responsible for facilitating learning in an environment that supports the Neighborhood Charter's Network's students with special needs.
Essential Job Responsibilities
- Assists teachers with instructing students with special needs in academic subjects, using a variety of techniques, such as phonetics, multisensory learning, or repetition to reinforce learning and meet students' varying needs, per their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Employ special education instructional strategies and best practices.
- Teaches socially acceptable behavior, as determined by the students' Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by employing strategies in an overall positive behavioral support system.
- Assists teachers with scaffolding the general education curriculum and provides accommodations for students with disabilities based upon a variety of instructional techniques and technologies.
- Provide crisis intervention, as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 48 college credit hours, a passed Paraprofessional Praxis Exam, or 1 year (1,000) hours as a Special Education Paraprofessional or Instructional Assistant, or a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credentials
- At least 1 years of crisis intervention experience
- At least 1 years of experience working with children with disabilities
- Bilingual - Spanish
- A strong understanding of child development, pedagogy, and content
- A collaborative attitude toward teaching and learning.
- The ability to be flexible in a new learning environment where things are changing
- A strong desire to be part of a larger team, valuing the perspective and work of others
- Value for developing and maintaining strong student and familial relationships
