WRSSC Blind-Low Vision Teacher Job Description
Teacher of the Blind and Visually Impaired and Teacher-leader Position
The Special Education Department needs a BLV teacher for WRSSC. This role will be for the 25-26 school year.
Department: Special Education Department
Reports to: Director of Special Education
Job Purpose
To support WRSSC to deliver quality services to students with BLV needs. Though this is a small number of students, to be fully compliant with Article 7 WRSSC requires having a credentialed staff member to serve our students with disabilities in the area of visual impairments throughout the district.
The Essential Functions Of This Role Are As Follows
Provide instruction that addresses each student's Individual Education Plan (IEP) goals and State standards.
Assess and document student progress and report progress to parents via IEP updates.
Provide support for students to ensure health, safety, and welfare.
Lead professional learning for BLV student needs.
Support student communication and advocacy.
Exhibit attributes of reliable attendance, promptness, and dependability.
Provide direct services and consults to students, families, and stakeholders.
Provide consultative services to all teachers serving students on your caseload.
You must meet the following requirements to be considered for employment
Bachelor's degree or higher in education/special education.
Valid teaching license or temporary license through the State of Indiana and pursuing permanent licensure, I-SEAL candidates are welcome to apply.
Specialized and current knowledge of the subject matter to be taught and the techniques used in the area of specialization.
Specialized knowledge of equipment that may be utilized as teaching aids.
Ability to show competency in vision/hearing-specific skills commensurate with the grade level in which the teacher is instructing.
Ability to maintain confidentiality of student information.
Working knowledge of school administrative guidelines and policies.
Ability to evaluate the performance, skills, and progress of a student.
Effective communication skills.
Assist students in using self-control and self-management strategies.
