TITLE: Bus Driver: In Training or Substitute
DEPARTMENT: Transportation
SUBSTITUE PAY RATE: $26.00 hourly OR
IN TRAINING DRIVER: $17.50 hourly
REPORTS TO: Director of Transportation
SUMMARY: Drives school bus to safely transport students to/from school.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
The employee shall remain free of any alcohol or nonprescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- Education and/or Experience: High School diploma or general education degree (GED) and minimum of one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Maintain Federal CDL Class B or above Passenger endorsement and "S" endorsement or the ability to obtain this licensure.
- Successfully complete and maintain requirements for Indiana DOT Yellow Card and physical exam.
- Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to pass an agility skills test.
- Transports students to/from school; drives assigned/approved routes; abides by all applicable traffic and safety rules.
- Maintains order during transport; assures students are seated safely at all times.
- Conducts daily safety and security check of school bus/vehicle and reports any unsafe conditions to appropriate authority.
- Verifies vehicle is safe before transporting students; cleans bus as needed.
- Follows emergency plan in event of accident.
- Documents student behavioral problems which occur during transport.
- Attends required meetings.
- Maintains regular attendance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor and/or other designee.
