LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read a limited number of two and three syllable words and to recognized similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.
COMMUNICATION SKILLS: Need to be able to work and communicate well with the other drivers and students. Must be able to discuss situations as they arise on and off the bus. Is polite and courteous to parents and all school personnel.
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES: Possess a willingness to learn the assigned bus route and operate the two-way radio as needed.
REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Ability to work in a friendly manner with co-workers and students. Ability to read and understand maps. Ability to pass State Skill Test, State Written Test, Department of Transportation physical. Ability to physically manage students and equipment. Be able to observe unusual student behavior and advise supervisor. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form. Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and push or pull up to 90 pounds such as student or students in wheelchairs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and depth perception and peripheral vision. The employee is required to drive a school bus in all types of weather from cold to hot and wet to dry.

- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Possess a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with necessary endorsements for transport of students. Must pass State Skill Test and State Written Test.
- Follows instructions from the school administrators pertaining to daily procedures and help as needed.
- Securing wheelchairs properly to meet safety standards and check security of all straps and wheelchair trays.
- Check on riders and watch them during transport.
- Assist in putting preschoolers in booster seats and getting them properly secured.
- Assist in the supervision of students at bus stops and before departing school and while traveling to and from school.
- Help with fueling and routine bus maintenance like checking fluids.
- Help keep the bus clean inside and outside. This will include attending to spills and cleaning of body fluids as necessary.
- Participate in in-service programs related to district policies and procedures, first aid, safety, emergency procedures and other subjects.
- Perform related and other duties as assigned that are a logical part of this position.
- Maintains professional appearance.
- Ensures own regular and prompt attendance.
- Effectively completes regular and other job performance criteria as assigned.
- Promotes good public relations for the school district and community.
- Remains free of any alcohol or non-prescribed controlled substance abuse in the workplace throughout his/her employment in the Corporation.
