Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides overall assistance to teacher
- Assists with classroom behavioral management to minimize disruptions, ensure a safe and orderly classroom, and ensure students are on task
- Takes over classes when the teacher has meetings, parent conferences, emergencies, etc.
- Prepares and distributes classroom materials; assists in the clean up of materials
- Monitors students at various times including recess, cafeteria, seat work, etc.
- Assists individual students and small groups with learning tasks as assigned by the teacher
- Administers first aid to sick or injured students until nurse can take over
- Assist with children's hygiene needs, which may include toileting
- Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with young children
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with staff, parents/guardians, and others contacted in the course of work
- Perform any other related duties as assigned
- Frequent bending, kneeling, reaching, and squatting
- Must be able to carry, lift, push or pull routinely
- Work involves walking or standing most of the time, but may involve sitting for brief periods of time
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Preferred: one to two years prior related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities.
