SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

This is a full-time, 12 month position and the Elementary ELA Coaching Coordinator will report directly to the appropriate Executive Director of Schools.


In collaboration with the District’s broader Learning Team, the Elementary ELA Coaching Coordinator will provide data-driven, strategic, instructional, and curricular support for all building-based ELA and instructional coaches. As such they will have Elementary teaching and coaching experience. Candidates will also be prepared to assist in supporting school PLCs.

An Average “Day In the Life” of the Elementary ELA Coaching Coordinator:


  • Provide targeted instructional support to building-level ELA and instructional coaches, administrators, and teachers through professional development, classroom walkthroughs, model lessons, data analysis, and lesson development training.
  • Strengthen the capacity of school teams by creating and implementing standards-based, content-specific pacing guides and instructional materials to enhance ELA instruction.
  • Serve as a liaison for digital learning platforms, ensuring effective use and integration at the school level.
  • Support the implementation and training of district-approved high-quality curricular resources, empowering ELA coaches to lead instructional improvements in their buildings.
  • Attend building-based PLC meetings to offer strategic feedback on internalization protocols, assessment strategies, student work analysis, and academic MTSS interventions, fostering collaboration among coaches and staff.
  • Collaborate regularly with Executive Directors of Schools to coordinate and align building-based supports across Learning Communities.
  • Design and deliver engaging, high-impact professional development sessions that align with district strategic priorities and departmental goals, equipping ELA coaches with tools for success.
  • Support the continuing implementation of Indianapolis Public Schools’ Rebuilding Stronger plan, ensuring ELA instruction is integrated into the broader vision for student success.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator’s Executive Director of Schools.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS:

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Highly Qualified status as defined by the Indiana Department of Education or their most recent state of employment.
  • A bachelor’s degree (required).
  • Deep knowledge of English Language Arts
  • Familiarity with the Indiana Academic Standards.
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of successful classroom teaching and coaching experience, including collaboration with other teachers and coaches.
  • Experience in designing and leading professional development sessions.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to navigate ambiguity and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • A collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with other professional staff members.
