Job Title: Head Facilities Custodian

Reports To: Building Administrators, Asst. Supt. and/or Supt.

Prepared By: Curtis D. Craig

Employment: 260 days

Summary

Head Facilities Custodian personnel keeps school offices, classrooms, restrooms and buildings, in a clean and orderly condition so as to allow for a healthy, secure environment for the students and staff by performing the following duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSPONSIBILITIES Include The Following

  • Assist students as needed and or directed by a building administrator.
  • Sweep, mop, dust, and scrub the kitchen area.
  • Open the buildings in the morning and change the alarm system from night to day mode. After all students are in the building re-check and lock all exterior entrances to the building except the main entrance and other doors as directed by the building administrator.
  • Regularly inspect fire protection devices and equipment for compliance, testing, and or repairs.
  • Assist the building administrators with all emergency drills.
  • Order supplies and recommend equipment needs for that facility through Central Office using appropriate forms.
  • Set-up and break down the lunchroom/cafeteria area.
  • Complete all exterior maintenance as needed for that facility. This includes but is not limited to, mowing, trimming of shrubs and bushes, and lining of athletic fields, both on site and off site.
  • Supervise, assign duties and evaluate other building and facility custodian personnel within that building.
  • Assure that all cleaning and duties of other custodial personnel is completed daily.
  • Inform the building administrators and building maintenance personnel of any problems or areas of need or concern.
  • Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by a building administrator.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Communicate, supervise, and evaluate ALL custodial level personnel within that building.

EDUCATION And/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); (6) six months to one year related experience and/or training as a facilities custodian; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percentages as needed and requested.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, and peripheral vision.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to both a heated/cooled environment and outside conditions. The employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme cold, and extreme heat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
