The mechanic will satisfactorily perform preventive maintenance and make repairs to school buses in compliance with
federal, state and local regulations as well as best practices. District passenger vehicles will also be repaired and
maintained. Bus changes and road calls will be performed as needed.

The mechanic will satisfactorily perform preventive maintenance and make repairs to school buses in compliance with
federal, state and local regulations as well as best practices. District passenger vehicles will also be repaired and
maintained. Bus changes and road calls will be performed as needed.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Observe mechanical devices in operation and listens to their sounds to locate causes of trouble.
- Dismantles devices to gain access to and remove defective parts. Examines form and texture of parts to detect imperfections
- Repair or replace defective parts and make adjustments to functional parts as needed
- Lubricate and clean parts
- Attend training and stay up to date with the most current school bus technology
- Assist drivers with vehicle issues
- Use two-way radio to communicate with drivers and transportation office
- Assist drivers and SROs at accident scenes
- Drive truck to service calls
- Drive school bus as needed
- Transport vehicles when outside work is being performed
- Assist with State Police School Bus Inspections
- Additional duties as assigned by Lead Mechanic or Director of Transportation
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Diesel engine repair knowledge
- Have or obtain Brake Certification as per FMCSA 49 CFR, part 396.19
- Knowledge of Indiana State School Bus Inspection procedures
- Ability to work well under pressure and quickly adapt when circumstances require it
- Keep a clean, safe, and organized workspace
- Have excellent attendance
- Valid driver's license: Must have a valid driver's license. CDL preferred.
