Position Summary

Provides direction for the program and classroom, and implements program curriculum. Provides a quality experience to children and parents that focuses on the YMCA values: honesty, respect, responsibility, caring and faith.

Essential Functions

  • Implements curriculum within the established guidelines.
  • Designs and implements daily lesson/activity plans. Teaches lessons with enthusiasm and positive encouragement.
  • Supervises the children, classroom, and all activities including field trips, playground and graduation activities.
  • Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child. Distributes report cards mid year and end of year.
  • Maintains positive relationships and effective communication with parents. Engages parents as volunteers.
  • Maintains program site and equipment and cleanliness of site.
  • Maintains required program records including their individual class payments, documenting important information and filling out accident/incident reports.
  • Encouraged to attend and participate in preschool family nights, program activities and promotions, staff meetings, and staff training.

Qualifications

  • At least 21 years of age
  • CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire date or first available date offered by YMCA.
  • Previous experience working with children in a developmental setting preferred.
  • Ability to plan, organize and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate program activities.
  • Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with people from different backgrounds.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Ability to plan, lead and participate in activities with students.
