Summary Of Opportunity

We are looking for a Special Education Instructional Assistant who will positively impact student

success by planning, carrying out, evaluating, and supervising instructional activities. Our Special

Education Instructional Assistant plays a key role in ensuring that students receive access to

rigorous math curriculum and instruction through authentic engagement. As a member of the

What You'll Do

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and

provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

  • Commit to implement differentiated instruction, including Three Tier Instruction, whole

group and flexible small grouping of students under a teacher's supervision

  • Maintain control that is conducive to student, classroom and campus safety
  • Complete and maintain non-violent crisis intervention certification and regularly practice

non-violent intervention strategies with students

  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to coordinate instructional support responsibilities.
  • Under a teacher's supervision, plans, prepares and develops various teaching aids, such as

study guides, charts and visual/auditory supports.

  • May support activities of daily living including, toileting, feeding and diapering.
  • Monitors students in the classroom, cafeteria, on the playground and in the community.

(May need to guide play and intervene with behavior.)

  • Provide support for students as planned by professional staff (teachers, therapists, social

workers, etc.).

  • Follow team prescribed procedures for academic, social, communication and behavioral

intervention plans.

  • Maintain confidentiality of records of students served and their progress
  • Assist in the collection and compilation of student, parent, teacher and community data
  • Attend professional meetings
  • Discuss pupils' academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with teacher
  • Administer frequent assessments to evaluate students' continuous progress.
  • Analyze data - evaluate student work and assessment data to make instructional

adjustments (error pattern analysis)

  • Other duties as assigned

"Day In the Life" Overview

On a regular day, as the Special Education Instructional Assistant you might:

  • Provide instructional interventions under the direction of a licensed teacher that

reinforces reading, language arts and /or mathematics instruction of the classroom teacher

  • Help prepare students for formal and informal assessments
  • Administer achievement tests and evaluates test results to discover the level of language

and math skills

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities related to monitoring students' behavior and

activities in the classroom, on the campus, and during school events

  • Keep attendance and grade records as required by the school
  • Work collaboratively with other staff

needs

  • Track record of developing and maintaining strong working relationships with and among

a diverse group of actors. Ability to work well independently as well as collaboratively.

  • Close attention to detail coupled with the ability to exercise good judgment
  • Ability to execute meetings, calls, and emails with professionalism, courtesy, and accuracy.

Education, Certification, And Licensure Requirements

  • Minimum 60 semester hours from an accredited university or a passing score on the Para

Pro Praxis Test

  • Experience in working with children (preferred)
