SUMMARY OF OPPORTUNITY:

We are looking for a Speech Language Pathologist-Assistant who will positively impact student success in preschool aged students. This is a rare opportunity for our Speech Language Pathologist-Assistant to play a key role in ensuring that preschool-aged students are set up for success for their future academic lives. You will be in a unique classroom setting providing treatment under the supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist to a group of 2-8 students. WHAT YOU’LL DO:

The following outlines what your core duties and responsibilities will be for this position and provides a sample overview of what your day-to-day may look like.

Core Duties And Responsibilities

  • Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
  • Plans or conducts rehabilitative treatment programs to restore communicative efficiency of students with communication problems of organic and nonorganic etiology supervised by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist
  • Provides counseling and guidance and language development therapy to disabled students under supervision of a licensed Speech Language Pathologist
  • Implements supports in the classroom to engage preschool aged students in communication focused activities
  • Completes classroom management duties such as cleaning, preparing materials, toileting, feeding, and organizing.
  • Completes clerical tasks such as taking attendance, helping manage transportation of students, and communicating with community members and other school staff.
  • Based upon the individual education plans, provides speech, language and communication therapy in a variety of settings under supervision of licensed Speech Language Pathologist
  • Collaborates with the licensed Speech Language Pathologist to assess individual performance to modify, change, or write new programs for students
  • Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.
  • Serves as consultant to school staff and parents to incorporate speech and language development activities into the daily schedule.
  • Implements lesson plans.
  • Records student data and progress on goals.

On a regular day, as the Speech Language Pathologist-Assistant, you might (Under Supervision by a Licensed SLP):

  • Incorporate and prepare instructional materials to meet the individual needs of all students
  • Support students in reaching their individualized education plan goals and standards
  • Work collaboratively with other staff
  • Assist in classroom management of behaviors of students using a communication-centered approach

Education, Certification, And Licensure Requirements

  • Minimum requirement of a bachelor’s degree in communication science disorders
  • 100 hours of clinical practicum supervised by a licensed Speech Language Pathologist
  • Broad knowledge of Indiana and IPS special education policies, practices and programs
