Look no further- the Indianapolis Zoo is seeking a Graphic Designer to join our team!
Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo’s mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. This role will work with a team approach to develop programs and graphic design treatments for a variety of print materials and displays. Will create visual concepts for print and signage within the visual style guidelines of the Zoo. The successful candidate will have strong organization skills to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously and the ability to remain calm with tight deadlines. This is a full-time, 40 hours per week, position that will require the candidate to have a flexible schedule to work some evening and weekend hours during peak season demands.
Everyday tasks include managing assigned projects to meet expectations and deadlines, project ownership and working within budgets. Candidate must have at least 2-3 years prior experience in graphic design as it pertains to print design and production, signage, promotions, publishing, collateral, print production process and brand execution. A strong background in print production and 4-color processes including prepress requirements with regard to file construction and color management is a must. Familiarity with mailing specification requirements and processes highly desired.
Responsibilities and Qualifications include, but are not limited to:
- Must have a BA/BS or Associates Degree in graphic design.
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
- Must be detail-oriented and extremely organized. Strong project management skills required.
- Responsible for design and production of all forms of print materials including but not limited to brochures, invitations, newsletters, ads, magazines, flyers, maps, etc. Responsibilities further include working with the Graphics Production Assistant & Scheduling Coordinator to identify and manage outside vendors and production services for said materials.
- Responsible for working within project budgets and timelines. Provides creative solutions to maintain high standards of quality with limited budgets.
- Works with Creative Services Manager and the Graphics Production Assistant & Scheduling Coordinator to select vendors based on quality and bid results.
- Strong, to super-user skills with MAC platform using Adobe Creative Suite: Adobe In Design, Photoshop, Illustrator and Acrobat. Intermediate skill requirements using Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook email. Experience with PowerPoint. Familiarity with basic PC platforms. Familiarity with large format printing.
- Ability to ascend/ descend ladders, steps, and uneven terrain, while maintaining body equilibrium to perform various jobs.
- May be required to perform physical work, which includes exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- May be required to perform installations or other types of outdoor work in all kinds of weather including temperature changes, snow, rain, etc. Exposure to work indoors and outdoors, under all environmental conditions, which include inclement weather, cold and hot temperatures, and humidity.
