From handling school bus and special event parking, to monitoring guest activity in the parking lot and patrolling Zoo grounds, our Seasonal Security Officers are never bored! We're on the hunt to add Seasonal Security Officers to our team!
The Indianapolis Zoo's Safety and Security team work to provide a safe, secure environment for our guests, volunteers, employees, animals, and plants. Our Seasonal (40 hours per week) Security Officer position works from May until November ensuring that the Zoo remains a safe, friendly destination for families to make memorable experiences.
Ideal candidates are committed to advancing the Zoo's mission to protect nature and inspire people to care for our world. Having a professional attitude and appearance to visitors, volunteers, and co-workers is vital to the position as well as being a team-oriented individual that is temperamentally suited to work with the public. Prior experience working in security, law enforcement, military, or extensive customer service experience is highly desired. Weekend, holiday, some evenings, overtime and/ or varied shift work is required. The pay rate for this position is $13.00/ hr.
Position Requirements and Experience:
- Minimum of one (1) year of related work experience preferred.
- Must be at least 18 years old and have a valid Indiana driver's license insurable by the Zoo's insurance.
- Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors under all environmental conditions and temperatures.
- Exceptional visual acuity is required, along with the ability to communicate, comprehend and decipher information accurately, using a two-way radio.
- Possible occupational exposure (Category B employee) to human bloodborne pathogens. Possible exposure to dangerous chemicals (e.g. chlorine bleach, cleaning agents, etc.) Must follow Universal Protection Precautions and Bloodborne Pathogens Guidelines.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Ability to Frequently move from one area to another while transporting items (up to 50 pounds) across Zoo grounds for various needs and the ability to position items (up to 100 pounds) short distances.
- Fluency in English is required. Bilingual a plus!
