What are the responsibilities and job description for the Volunteer Program Assistant - Part Time position at Indianapolis Zoo?
Throughout the year, our Volunteer Services office is in high gear with recruiting, selecting and training adult, college intern, and Zoo Teen volunteers. The part-time Volunteer Program Assistant works year-round, and will assist with scheduling volunteers for special events, interview candidates, attend recruiting fairs and assist with new volunteer orientations. Scheduled hours are flexible, but some early evening and weekend work may be required. We are looking for someone that can dedicate 15-20 hours per week.
Clerical skills such as database entry, answering phones, responding to emails, and writing business letters are required. Prior experience volunteering or working at events and a demonstrated commitment to volunteerism is preferred.
The successful candidates must possess:
- A high school diploma or G.E.D.
- A good working knowledge of word processing software programs.
- The ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Comfortable speaking in front of groups
- Experience working with diverse groups, and one-on-one with people from various socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Experience working at special events.
- Experience working with volunteers.
- Intermediate proficiency in Word, Excel, Outlook, and Power Point.
- Beginner level skills needed for database software.
Employment at the Indianapolis Zoo is contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment testing including a background check, motor vehicle check (if applicable) and a drug test.
