Description
SUMMARY: Drive daily fixed routes for the transportation of children to/from the center. Ensure that each child is correctly secured in approved child safety restraints. To act as an Ambassador to the Agency and to reflect all Agency matters positively.
REPORTS TO: Regional Manager/ Site Supervisor
FLSA STATUS: Part Time, Non-Exempt
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE BUS DRIVER: Include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Must supervise and monitor children at all times by following Active Supervision procedures, policies, and strategies to ensure no child is ever left unsupervised.
- Drive daily fixed routes for the transportation of children to/from the center.
- Ensure that each child is correctly secured in approved child safety restraints.
- Ensure the safety of the children on the bus.
- Observe all highway and Head Start policies and procedures.
- Report all accidents/damages to the vehicle to the regional manager immediately.
- Make accommodations as needed for children with disabilities.
- Visually observe the health of each child on the bus. Report any concerns to the teacher and parent/guardian.
- Report all vehicle problems to the regional manager and obtain authorization before repairs are scheduled.
- Schedule regular maintenance of the vehicle(s) to ensure vehicles are in proper operating condition and meet all highway and Head Start safety regulations.
- Clean the vehicle regularly to maintain sanitary conditions.
- Complete pre-trip inspection before each trip daily.
- Maintain a current list of passengers and take daily attendance.
- Maintain accurate daily and monthly records and submit as required.
- Maintain the cell phone system by reporting any non-reception areas to the regional manager and limiting usage to transportation needs.
- Participate in center and bus monitoring for safety and compliance.
- Participate in family staffing when applicable.
- Must support center during major transitions to ensure child safety and supervision.
- Must follow break schedule created by a supervisor.
- Serve as a liaison between ICAA Head Start and Head Start families.
- Participate in general cleaning of the center.
- Attend staff meetings and training.
- Responsible for supporting the program in collecting in-kind to meet federal requirements.
- To the extent possible, employees will not provide direct services to their family members. However, when this is not possible, to minimize potential conflicts of interest, employees should avoid providing direct services to their family members. If an employee is responsible for the care and guidance of closely related children, they should make every effort to transfer these responsibilities to another caregiver within the classroom. This approach helps maintain professional boundaries and ensures impartiality in service delivery.

Requirements
QUALIFICATIONS OF THE BUS DRIVER: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily, be self-initiated, operate with minimal supervision, and have organizational skills. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE OF THE BUS DRIVER: CDL certification and good driving record. Ability to communicate effectively with adults and children. Ability to handle emergencies. Able to maintain and perform minor automotive repairs, such as replacing wiper blades, keeping tires at appropriate pressure, and refilling wiper fluid. Ability to work flexible hours. Understanding of child behavior and appropriate guidance. Knowledge of traffic and safety laws. Skill in the operation of a motor vehicle
under all types of weather conditions.

Maintain confidentiality and professionalism of all family, volunteer, and staff information. Communicates optimistically, positively, and with honesty and openness.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS OF THE BUS DRIVER: Manages time effectively, and uses program resources wisely. Must have computer skills.
REASONING ABILITY OF THE BUS DRIVER: Demonstrates effective leadership, teaming, and conflict resolution skills and demonstrates knowledge of appropriate child management strategies. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES OF THE BUS DRIVER: Ability to serve as a productive team member on an interdisciplinary team of professionals, respect and respond competently to the culture, traditions, lifestyle, language, and values of each family and community, and maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS OF THE BUS DRIVER: Maintain a valid Wisconsin Drivers License and CDL with school bus and passenger endorsements
PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE BUS DRIVER: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. - Ability to lift and carry a 40-50-pound child or other objects.
- Must be able to pass physical/medical requirements as a CDL driver.
