General Summary:
As the Assistant Manager at our Ace Hardware store, you will play a vital role in supporting the overall store operations and assisting in the achievement of company goals and directives. Your focus will be on delivering exceptional customer service, maintaining store operations, managing inventory and merchandising, as well as hiring, training, and developing associates.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Customer Service:
- Represent the store in a positive manner and proactively assist customers in resolving problems.
- Greet and acknowledge customers throughout their shopping experience.
- Handle customer complaints and work towards swift resolutions while considering the store's best interest.
- Demonstrate excellent product knowledge and familiarity with the store layout.
Store Operations:
- Create a professional and safe work environment for all associates.
- Supervise and assist with the general operations of the entire store.
- Participate in opening and closing procedures.
- Support the implementation of Store Support Center programs and initiatives.
- Ensure successful execution of Loss Prevention, Safety, and Internal Audits.
- Collaborate with the Store Manager and Assistant Manager on various store-related tasks.
- Communicate issues to the Store Support Center with Store Manager approval.
- Assist with special projects within the district as directed by the District Manager.
- Implement new Standard Operating Procedures to enhance store efficiency.
- Maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of the sales floor, stock room, and outdoor merchandise areas.
- Ensure timely and accurate completion of price changes and label updates.
- Oversee cashiering functions, including training, maintenance, audits, and reports.
- Manage and direct preventative maintenance and repairs for the store's physical assets.
- Stay informed about the competition's activities.
Inventory & Merchandising:
- Assist in safe and efficient forklift operations and receiving processes.
- Ensure merchandise receiving, stocking, and best practices adherence.
- Maintain appropriate back stock levels.
- Conduct timely and accurate cycle counts and negative on hand reports.
- Assist in ordering and maintaining desirable product inventory levels for in-stocks and store profitability.
- Support merchandise resets and ensure all signage is up-to-date.
- Present a clean and orderly sales floor, including end caps and promotional displays.
Hiring & Training of Associates:
- Assist in training all associates and actively promote their advancement.
- Participate in the hiring, training, scheduling, reviewing, rewarding, and coaching of Head Cashiers and Cashiers with Store Manager approval.
Leadership:
- Manage store operations in the absence of the Store Manager.
- Lead by example, fostering approachability for all associates and customers.
- Attend and actively participate in store meetings.
- Share merchandising, cost control, or sales ideas with the Store Manager for follow-up.
- Prepare and challenge yourself for future advancement.
Requirements:
- Education: High School or GED equivalent. Completion of NHRA Advanced Course in Hardware Retailing recommended.
- Experience: Previous retail management experience preferred. Hardware experience preferred.
Physical Demands:
- Standing, walking, lifting (up to 50lbs), and climbing.
