Description:
JOB SUMMARY: The Collections Specialist is responsible for resolving overdue bills and collecting payments from those who owe. They must ensure that they keep their employer's assets safe while also making sure those responsible for unpaid bills are contacted immediately.
PRIMARY DUTIES
- Monitor the company’s A/R and identify overdue accounts
- Contact customers with overdue account and attempt to either collect or negotiate a payment plan
- Resolve customer issues and complaints concerning billing
- Submit regular reports on the status of unpaid accounts and any repayment progress
- Monitors and research problems with the AR Aging
- Monitor/Research/Adjust customer debits and credits
- Support Internal/External audits
- Responsible for application of customer payments in accounting software
- Assist in Month-end closing procedures
- Assist with Cash and AR Projections
- Create and post journal entries
- Perform account validations
- Prepare and complete monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations
- Financial Reporting
OTHER DUTIES
- Assist with special projects as assigned
- Promote teamwork and support team improvement committees and activities
- Identify and propose cost reduction/avoidance ideas, and productivity, efficiency, and quality improvements
- Assist with general office duties as required
- Maintain continuous improvement of the department and the services delivered to the customer of the accounting department
- Support all efforts to ensure that quality/environmental
- All other duties as assigned
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE / SKILLS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or related experience
- 3 Years clerical experience
- Knowledge of and ability to use PC’s and related software (for accounting, spreadsheets, word processing, etc.)
- Ability to readily interface with all areas of the company and outside contacts while maintaining confidentiality on sensitive issues
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Good analytical and organizational skills with ability to meet deadlines with informational accuracy, and ability to work well under stress
- Thorough understanding and knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
- High degree of self-motivation and independent decision making
