POSITION SUMMARY:
This position remotely supports the Eastern Iowa area, taking responsibility for customers’ battery and charger fleets using IBP’s maintenance service programs and performing in-field evaluation and repair services. This technician will regularly dispatch to a handful of customers on a regular basis, as well as dispatch to other customer locations as needed for evaluations and repairs.
The ideal candidate lives in the Cedar Rapids area to efficiently serve customers in Eastern Iowa. Initial training will take place at the IBP branch in Des Moines, IA. Once trained, the Resident Service Technician will dispatch from their home in a fully-equipped company vehicle to support customers in IBP's Eastern Iowa territory.
STARTING PAY:
$28.00 - $30.00/hr

- This position follows a weekly rotating schedule:
Week 1: Day shift, Monday through Friday.
Week 2: Day shift on Monday and Friday, and second shift on Tuesday through Thursday.
- Occasional overtime and overnight travel
- Reports to Branch Ops Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Dispatch from technician’s residence to and from customer locations in a fully-equipped company vehicle
- Maintain adequate parts stock in service vehicle and coordinate restock with branch via common carrier on a weekly basis
- Field evaluation of steel case industrial batteries and industrial chargers with company-provided tools and supplies.
- Maintain customer battery fleet through watering and other proactive services.
- Accurately and legibly complete all required paperwork and electronically submit to branch daily
- Accurately report time in accordance with company and DOT regulations using company payroll and ELD system
- Complete regular safety training to ensure knowledge of safe actions and environments
- Work safely within the provisions of IBP’s policies and procedures
- Responsible for the reporting of unsafe acts or environments to supervisor
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
REQUIRED:
- Minimum 21 years of age due to licensing requirements
- High school degree, or equivalent
- Class C CDL with Hazmat endorsement
- If not possessed at hire, opportunity will be given to obtain license within given timeframe
- Must have excellent motor vehicle report to obtain license, and be insurable by IBP
- Consent for and ability to pass background check prior to hire including criminal, credit, and motor vehicle reports (state dependent)
- Consent for and ability to pass drug screening prior to hire
- Consent for and ability to pass random drug and alcohol screenings as a CDL driver
- Annual Lead and Zinc Screenings per OSHA guidelines
PREFERRED:
- Associates or Technical Degree/Training
- AC & DC Electrical Knowledge/Training
- Experience in the Motive Power Industry
- Experience with the following tools: Oxygen and Acetylene torch, Voltmeter, Multimeter, Hydrometer, Amp Probe, Load Banks
- Forklift Certified
- Knowledge of geographical area
- Knowledge of Lift Truck Dealer territories and major end users
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to pick up 75 pounds from a standing position
- Ability to stand, walk, and move for extended periods during the workday.
- Frequent bending, kneeling, stooping, and reaching to perform tasks.
- Manual dexterity to handle tools, equipment, and small parts.
- Good hand-eye coordination and visual acuity to perform precise tasks.
- Must be able to work indoors and outdoors with physical environments that are subject to temperature extremes and other conditions associated with warehouse operations. Additional PPE will be provided based on location conditions and requirements.
