What are the responsibilities and job description for the PowerCare Technician position at Industrial Battery Products?
POSITION SUMMARY:
The purpose of IBP’s service department is to take responsibility for the health of our customers’ battery and charger fleets using IBP’s maintenance service programs.
The PowerCare Technician is an entry level role within IBP’s Technician Certification Program. The ideal candidate for this position typically will not have any prior battery maintenance or repair experience, however, is mechanically minded, possessing the motivation and desire to enhance their skills and knowledge to progress within IBP’s service department.
CLASSIFICATION:
- Non-exempt, hourly position

- Reports to Branch Operations Manager or Service Manager
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work in-shop evaluation line to evaluate steel case industrial batteries requiring a hydrometer and voltmeter.
- Complete Shipping Checklists (SCLs) to confirm batteries and chargers are shipping per customer specifications.
- Complete RCL’s as specified batteries come back to the shop.
- Prepare junk batteries for shipping to smelter.
- Maintain battery fleet at customer facilities through “watering” with minimal supervision.

Conduct battery surveys at customer facilities with a team.
- This includes switching industrial batteries out of customer lift trucks by both side and overhead extraction to service.
- Work as part of a team to upgrade customers’ charger fleets under the direction of manager or team lead.
- Maintain adequate watering parts stock in service vehicle.
- Effectively utilize Microsoft products such as Excel, Word and Outlook on a desktop computer and/or iPad.
- Proficiently utilize various applications for charger programming, time card tracking and documentation of field services from cell phone or ipad.
- Complete regular safety training to ensure knowledge of safe actions and environments.
- Work safely within the provisions of IBP’s policies and procedures.
- Report any unsafe acts or environments to supervisor

Drive to and from customer locations in a fully equipped company vehicle.
- Use of large box truck requiring a Class B CDL driver’s license with Hazmat and Air-Brakes endorsements
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
- Minimum 21 years of age
- High school degree, or equivalent

Class B CDL with Air-Brakes and Hazmat endorsement
- If not possessed at hire, opportunity will be given to obtain license within 6 months
- Must have excellent motor vehicle report to obtain license, and be insurable by IBP
- IBP Forklift Certification once hired
- Occasional overnight travel
- Consent for and ability to pass background check prior to hire including criminal, credit, and motor vehicle reports (state dependent)
- Consent for and ability to pass drug screening prior to hire
- Consent for and ability to pass random drug and alcohol screenings as a CDL driver
- Consent for annual Lead and Zinc Screenings per OSHA guidelines
Preferred:
- Associates or Technical Degree/Training
- AC & DC Electrical Knowledge/Training
- Experience with gas torch for burning, voltmeter, hydrometer, and amp probe
- Forklift experience
- Knowledge of geographical area
- Knowledge of Lift Truck Dealer territories and major end users
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 75 pounds from a standing position.
- Able to stand, walk, bend, kneel, twist, and reach for extended periods.
- Requires use of hand tools and diagnostic equipment.
- Comfortable working in indoor and outdoor environments, including hot, cold, or uneven warehouse conditions.
- Must be able to climb in/out of vehicles and operate forklifts and other powered equipment (training provided).
- Must be able to drive a large box truck and meet all CDL physical requirements.
- PPE use required; additional PPE provided by IBP based on site conditions.
