Position Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Automation and Controls Engineer to join our team. This role involves designing, developing, and deploying sophisticated automation systems across the entire equipment lifecycle, from conceptualization to commissioning. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of control system integration, PLC programming, and HMI development, with a focus on industrial processes and related control systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Designing:
    • Create comprehensive plans and select appropriate hardware for electrical, pneumatic, and fluid systems.
    • Develop control architectures and system layouts tailored to specific project needs.
    • Ensure integration with process instrumentation and setup configurations as required.
  • Programming:
    • Write, debug, and optimize software for PLCs using platforms like Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 Logix Designer and other relevant tools.
    • Develop HMIs using platforms such as PanelView, Red Lion, Wonderware, Ignition, or equivalent.
    • Ensure compliance with industry standards, specifically IEC 61131-3, and seamless integration into existing systems.
  • Developing:
    • Design intuitive, user-friendly local HMIs to simplify diagnostics and troubleshooting for end users.
    • Innovate solutions that enhance user engagement and system efficiency.
  • Testing and Commissioning:
    • Conduct rigorous testing to validate that equipment meets design specifications and user requirements.
    • Collaborate with end users to fine-tune systems for maximum performance.
    • Perform PLC commissioning and ensure successful startup of systems.
  • Setup and Configuration:
    • Setup and configure process instrumentation as needed.
    • Terminate I/O in control panels and perform loop checks to ensure system integrity.
  • Troubleshooting:
    • Utilize strong troubleshooting skills to resolve technical issues efficiently.
  • Project Management:
    • Demonstrate effective project management capabilities to ensure timely and within-budget delivery of projects.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage project resources and communicate project requirements to stakeholders.
  • Leadership and Collaboration:
    • Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across all organizational levels.
    • Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers and technicians.
    • Work collaboratively in a team environment to support client projects and deliver solutions with consistency and accuracy.
Qualifications

  • Education: A Bachelor of Science degree in Control Systems, Automation, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is desirable but not required. Relevant experience can substitute for a degree.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 to 5 years in industrial automation and controls engineering. Oil and Gas experience preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in Allen-Bradley Studio 5000 Logix Designer and similar PLC programming platforms.
    • Expertise in designing and implementing local control HMIs using platforms like PanelView, Red Lion, Wonderware, Ignition, or equivalent.
    • Strong understanding of control system integration and lifecycle management from project kick-off to commissioning and start-up.
    • Familiarity with IEC 61131-3 programming standards.
    • Ability to setup and configure process instrumentation.
    • Capable of terminating I/O in control panels and performing loop checks.
  • Soft Skills:
    • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to manage technical resources onsite and communicate project requirements with stakeholders.
    • Experience in industries such as oil and gas, manufacturing, or energy is preferred.
What You'll Do

As part of our Control System Integration Practice, you will work with a team of industry experts to deliver high-quality solutions to our clients. Your responsibilities will include supporting capital projects, implementing solutions, and collaborating with clients to improve their performance. You will apply your knowledge of programming methods, electrical design, and engineering problem-solving to modern control system and OT ICS practices. This role involves designing, programming, and troubleshooting packaging oil and gas skids, compressors, specialty IIoT Equipment, along with machinery and line control systems, as well as traveling to client sites to assist in the design of oil and gas, landfill gas, renewable energy, Water/Wastewater, Data Center, and manufacturing processes and manage projects.
