What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mid-Level Industrial Designer position at Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA)?
Join CDG: Mid-Level Industrial Designer (3-5 Years Experience)
Shape the Future of Innovation in Chicago
About Us
CHOI Design Group (CDG) isn’t just a design studio—we’re a legacy. Founded in 1994 by Charles Choi, we’ve spent nearly 30 years turning bold ideas into iconic products for global brands, startups, and everything in between. From life-saving medical devices to cutting-edge consumer tech, our small but mighty Chicago team thrives on diversity, creativity, and ownership. Now, as we grow, we’re seeking a self-driven Industrial Designer ready to lead projects from concept to production and leave their mark on the next generation of design.
The Role
You’re the Missing Piece.
As a Mid-Level Industrial Designer, you’ll own projects end-to-end in a role that blends creativity, strategy, and hands-on execution. No hand-holding. No micromanaging. Just you, your talent, and a team of senior designers cheering you on.
What You’ll Do
You’re a Swiss Army Knife of Design.
3 -5 years of professional industrial design experience (agency/consultancy preferred).
A portfolio that screams versatility: sketch ideation, 3D modeling, UX/UI touches, and products in production.
Software mastery: SolidWorks (non-negotiable), Keyshot, Adobe Suite, and sketching tools (Cintiq/Sketchbook Pro).
Bonus points for motion/animation skills, 3D printing savvy, or cross-functional work with engineers.
A mindset that’s equal parts artist and entrepreneur: You obsess over user needs, market trends, and business outcomes.
Soft Skills That Set You Apart
Thrive in chaos? Our studio is fast-paced, collaborative, and never boring.
Communicate like a pro—clients trust you, teammates respect you.
Hungry to learn? We’ll invest in your growth with workshops, conferences, and mentorship.
Why Join CDG?
Small Studio, Big Perks.
Ownership & Impact: See your designs on shelves fast. No red tape.
Work with Legends: Learn from Charles Choi (30 years in the game) and a tight-knit team of senior designers.
Diverse Projects: One day you’re designing a smart home device, the next a breakthrough medical tool.
Flexibility: Hybrid schedule, summer Fridays, and a Ukrainian Village studio stocked with snacks, prototypes, and creativity.
Grow With Us: We’re expanding—your role could evolve into leadership, client management, or niche specialties.
