We currently have an opening for a Production Supervisor for Industrial Physics in our New Albany Indiana location.
JOB SUMMARY:
This role is responsible for overseeing the daily manufacturing operations to ensure that customer demands are met while fostering improvements in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, productivity, cost, and standardization. Utilizing LEAN methodologies, the role aims to continually optimize production processes, reduce waste, and improve efficiency, all while maintaining a focus on safety and quality standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Ensure established product lines are delivered on time, with a focus on meeting deadlines and maintaining production efficiency
- Develop and manage manufacturing production schedules, setting priorities based on demand and production capacity
- Monitor labor capacity and schedule shifts accordingly to ensure smooth operations
- Work with department managers across various functions (e.g., quality control, supply chain, engineering) to maximize productivity
- Identify and address bottlenecks, especially in environments with low volume but high product mix, to optimize production flow
- Ensure that all production staff follow established workmanship quality standards and work instructions, producing high-quality products
- Actively resolve production issues, troubleshoot on the shop floor, and implement corrective actions to ensure process controls are effective
- Lead, coach, and develop team members to help them reach their full potential
- Foster a positive and supportive work environment that promotes continuous improvement
- Handle first-line supervisory duties, such as assigning tasks, approving time and attendance, and providing performance feedback
- Work closely with the supply chain team to mitigate material shortages and avoid delays in job orders that could impact production schedules
- Identify potential gaps, bottlenecks, or inefficiencies in the production process
- Work with extended operations teams to ensure a smooth, coordinated workflow and support continuous improvement initiatives
- Take on any other tasks as assigned by management, demonstrating flexibility in fulfilling various needs within the manufacturing environment
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
- Must be able to collaborate effectively as a cross functional team player with various teams and departments within the company, demonstrating partnership skills across functional areas
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, are required
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential for day-to-day tasks and reporting
- Knowledge of electrical-mechanical assembly techniques, such as wiring control cabinets, working with logical controllers, etc., is advantageous
Requirements
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- Experience in integrating new product lines, including expertise in flow/line layout design, is a valuable asset
- Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and experience with Kaizen events aimed at improving productivity and efficiency is desirable
- Experience in planning and problem-solving with an electromechanical manufacturing environment is highly preferred
- At least 5 years of experience using an ERP/MRP system in a job shop work environment is required
- Familiarity with ERP systems is beneficial for efficient production and operations management
- A minimum of 5 years in a supervisory or leadership role within a small-volume, high-mix electromechanical manufacturing environment is essential
- A background in engineering is highly desirable and will be a strong plus for the role, especially in problem solving and process improvement.
