Overview
A controller oversees an organization's daily accounting operations, including the accounting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable departments. The controller also helps guide a company's strategic financial decisions and is integral to the Company’s financial health. Their responsibility is to establish, monitor, and enforce financial policies and procedures used to monitor and verify the Company’s financial condition. This person will streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes. The controller will also produce thorough financial-status reports for senior managers to help improve our operational efficiency and aid in our continued growth.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversees an organization's daily accounting operations, including the accounting, payroll, accounts payable and accounts receivable departments.
- Oversee the company’s cost accounting and inventory control functions, to ensure company’s profitability and inventory cost by product code is accurate
- Establish, monitor, and enforce financial policies and procedures used to monitor and verify the Company’s financial condition.
- Develop and enforce internal controls to maximize protection of company assets, policies, procedures, and workflows
- Establish (in coordination with CFO) financial and operating benchmarks, budgets, program monitoring, and reporting standards on biweekly, monthly, and annual basis
- Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programs, adhering to local, state and national accounting standards
- Monitor company performance by review of the Income Statement, Balance Sheet, and Cash Flow Statements on a timely basis, and use this information to provide clear financial guidance to the company’s leadership.
- Streamline our budgeting, payroll, and financial reporting processes.
- Create reports that can be automatically generated for consistent usage and ease of data for upper management
- Inventory control – ensure inventory is organized and reported accurately
- Ensure the proper identification of all inventory - labeling and document control
- Oversee inventory counts
- Resolve inventory, material, and documentation discrepancies
- Track and determine commission payouts based on current and future agreements for Sales and Purchasing Agents
- Perform other tasks as directed by management
Supervisory Responsibilities
- The controller oversees all employees involved in the accounting process, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, inventory and compliance.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Ten or more years of professional accounting experience
- Strong understanding of banking processes and financial data analysis
- Working knowledge of national and local accounting regulations and compliance reporting
- Experience in managing payroll, with focus on streamlining accounting processes
- Exemplary history of financial project management
- Strong attention to detail
- Excellent organizational and multitasking skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft office – Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word
- Analytical and numerical skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in business, accounting, or related field
- Five or more years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager
- Professional certification, such as CPA (certified public accountant) or CA (chartered accountant)
Work Environment: This role primarily operates in a production environment.
