Mechanical Project Engineer

The Mechanical Project Engineer will be based in Midland, Texas, and is responsible for providing technical expertise to support the efficient, reliable, and safe operation of pipelines, processing plants, and field equipment in the Midland area. This position involves diagnosing equipment issues, conducting failure analyses, and implementing solutions to optimize performance. The engineer will collaborate with Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Reliability, and Commercial teams to drive improvements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and monitor the performance of gathering systems, plant operations, and compressor stations, recommending enhancements to boost efficiency, reliability, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Act as a technical resource for troubleshooting operational challenges, engaging with various personnel, including operators, mechanics, supervisors, land professionals, legal teams, and environmental specialists.
  • Assist in planning and executing technical evaluations, performance testing, and upgrades for existing infrastructure while ensuring compliance with safety and environmental policies.
  • Develop and utilize process simulations to support plant and compressor station operations.
  • Ensure adherence to engineering standards and procedures, providing recommendations to maintain quality, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support project development efforts by collaborating with cross-functional teams to design, scope, and execute a variety of engineering initiatives.
  • Define project objectives, technical specifications, and regulatory requirements to ensure compliance with industry standards and legal guidelines.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to streamline project execution and resolve technical issues.
  • Provide guidance for Process Safety Management (PSM) initiatives, including identifying and mitigating process risks.
  • Recommend process and operational improvements to address business and regulatory challenges.
  • Oversee project planning, cost estimation, contractor selection, and execution while interpreting engineering designs and specifications.
  • Participate in incident reviews, training programs, and commercial strategy discussions.
  • Maintain project documentation and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Lead and mentor junior engineers, offering technical advice and career development support.
  • Provide engineering support for process plants, field compressor stations, and pipeline systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Legally authorized to work in the United States.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Engineering.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience.
  • Background in the oil and gas sector with expertise in engineering roles.
  • Familiarity with process simulation software such as Promax, VMG/Symmetry, or similar tools.
  • Willingness and ability to meet the following requirements, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Travel to field locations and training sites.
  • Work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including steel-toe boots, eye and ear protection.
  • Lift and carry items up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally exert a pulling force of 130 pounds.
  • Occasionally climb ladders and work at elevated heights.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of OSHA and DOT regulations (e.g., DOT 192/195, OSHA 1910.119) and familiarity with industry codes and practices, including ASTM, API, NACE, ASME, NFPA, and DOT.
  • Experience with facility design principles such as:
  • Compression and separation systems.
  • Pumps and fluid flow mechanics.
  • Piping and structural design.
  • Instrumentation and electrical systems, DCS, PLCs, SCADA systems.
  • Process control and safety mechanisms.
  • Understanding of Process Safety Management (PSM), including Management of Change (MOC), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), Pre-Start-up Safety Review (PSSR), and Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Strong leadership abilities with the capacity to influence various organizational levels.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Capable of working independently and in a team-oriented environment.
  • Willingness and ability to meet additional physical demands, with or without reasonable accommodation:
  • Climb structures up to 200 feet.
  • Work in confined spaces when required.
