Laboratory Technician (Metallurgical/Mechanical)
We are hiring a Laboratory Technician Supervisor position for our laboratory in Pittsburgh, PA. This position will report directly to the Manager of Lab Services and may support the department in a supervisory role.
Key responsibilities:
- Perform a variety of mechanical and chemical analytical testing
- Familiarity with ASTM/ANSI codes and standards.
- Perform testing of the material in precise and accurate manner with the appropriate equipment for the material and required properties.
- Operate various types of chemical and physical analytical equipment and techniques including titration, ICP-OES, XRF, LECO, UV-VIS, tensile testing, hardness testing, conductivity, sawing, milling, routing, weighing, measuring, filing and etc.
- Must be able to perform precision chemical analysis with an understanding of control limits, volumetric measuring, use of micrometers and calipers and other precision measuring equipment.
- Must be able to troubleshoot various types of analytical equipment by training and by cross referencing equipment manuals, training videos and other media.
- Required to accurately report test results to the Quality Supervisors and be able to recognize typical test results to determine out of normal/specification test results. Report out of typical results to the Quality Supervisor and Shift Supervisor in a timely fashion.
- Experience with operation and maintenance of a scanning electron microscope highly beneficial.
- Supervision of laboratory personnel, equipment and training. (Working supervisor.) Manage work load of each technician, oversee equipment maintenance and calibration, monitor training of current and new employees on equipment and test methods.
Physical Requirements & Environmental Conditions:
- Must be capable of lifting up to 60 lbs.
- Exposed to seasonal temperature changes
- Manufacturing environment with heat, noise, dust, and vibration
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Secondary education in Science or Engineering (preferred)
- Supervisory Experience (preferred)
- Strong attention to detail
- Mechanical aptitude
