Position Overview
IOB is looking for a sighted or visually impaired café lead for the 33 & Elm Coffee House to assist the manager in all facets of the coffee shop, including but not limited to ordering and inventory management, cash management, scheduling, training, customer service, machine maintenance and overall upkeep of the café. This person will be an asset to the success of 33 & Elm.
The café is currently open Monday-Friday, 6:30am- 5:30pm and Saturday 7:30am- 4:30pm. Due to the high demand of the position, the applying person should be aware that this hourly position may require variable hours and willingness to learn and do any tasks necessary for operations. Flexibility is important. You will be directly assisting the manager with all tasks necessary to have a successful and smooth running operation. Ability to arrange transport for irregular hours and Saturdays is preferred.

Essential Functions
- Create an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
- Work alongside manager and work as stand-in supervisor when manager is not present.
- Perform inventory tasks and product ordering as needed.
- Complete daily and weekly tasks related to food and beverage safety.
- Execute cash management activities required for appropriate day parts.
- Model exceptional customer service skills by greeting customers, answering questions, recommending products and providing daily support, direction, and guidance to baristas. Gain and maintain knowledge of products sold within the department and be able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
- Work with manager to create, coordinate and execute various marketing campaigns and post social media content
- Accurately prepare, package, label and inventory ingredients in merchandise.
- Check product quality to ensure freshness. Review "sell by" dates and take appropriate action.
- Report product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
- Prepare and ensure all featured beverages meet quality standards
- Prepare customer orders with speed and accuracy
- Properly handle and maintain all equipment, train employees as needed
- Respond to orders, questions, concerns, and complaints in a polite and efficient manner
- Describe current promotions and new products
- Accurately handle cash and credit card payments, following appropriate cash-handling procedures with efficiently using Point of Sale iPad system.
- Serve customers quickly and efficiently, maintaining all IOB core values

- Work alongside employees as team leader, give guidance when needed
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Ensure proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identify unsafe conditions and notify store management.
- Practice preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notify appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
- Demonstrate a thorough understanding of all the menu offerings
- Serve prepared food items such as muffins, bagels, prepackaged sandwiches, etc.
- Prepare and pack coffee bean purchases for customers
- Record and accurately process purchases using the POS system
- Collect and process payments from the customer including cash, credit and debit cards
- Ensure customer service stations are well stocked
- Maintain clean and hygienic work area
- Display merchandise in an attractive and functional manner
- Complete opening and closing duties for each shift
- Notify management of customer or employee accidents.
- Report all safety risk, or issues, and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
Work Experience
Minimum of 6 months experience as a barista or similar food service experience is required
Strong retail, hospitality, and/or customer service required
- Experience opening and closing preferred
- Training, coaching and supervisory experience preferred
- Management experience preferred
Physical Demands and Work Environment
