POSITION PURPOSE
The Director of Fleet Services is responsible for the short/long term planning and day-to-day operations of Fleet Services. The includes but not limited to direction, coordination, and administration of the corporation’s vehicles, fleet servicing, vehicle purchasing and disposal, vehicle inventory management, distribution and tracking.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Directs, oversees and monitors all vehicle servicing operations and activities.
- Establish and monitor budgets, staffing levels to maximize efficient resource utilization.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures and work instructions for department efficiency.
- Develop and implement premium cleaning programs that contribute to the safety, cleanliness, and reliability of the corporation’s equipment, and rolling stock.
- Oversee the revenue fleet bill-out process for efficient service delivery daily.
- Manage various fleet technologies (i.e., diesel, hybrid, battery electric), evaluate efficiencies, and report results, trends, and opportunities to enhance service delivery.
- Service as project manager for all contracts for department.
- Manages the fleet procurement process, working with stakeholders to develop vehicle specifications and ensure fleet is equipped as required to meet service delivery standards.
- Oversee the recruitment, supervision, training, productivity, evaluation, and discipline of staff.
- Works closely with the Maintenance Department providing initial access to OEM specifications and maintenance requirements for current and future vehicle maintenance and repairs needs.
- Works with the Director of Preventive Maintenance and Repairs to ensure revenue and non-revenue fleet is repaired timely and within regulatory guidelines.
- Collaborate with the Maintenance Department to develop, implement, and modify comprehensive service and maintenance practices for fleet vehicle servicing, oversee training of new processes as required.
- Ensure compliance with IndyGo policies, procedures and applicable state, federal and local regulations and laws.
- Manage assess disposal process by working collaboratively with key stakeholders.
- Maintains effective labor relations adhering to work rules and collective bargaining agreement, addresses grievances and complaints in a timely, consistent, and fair manner.
- Is accountable for safety in the workplace.
OTHER FUNCTIONS
- Assists in the preparation and organizational Fleet Management Plan.
- Helps promote IndyGo as the leading voice in public transportation issues in the community.
- Attends and participates in board meetings.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Directly supervises one or more employees.
- Applies supervisory responsibilities according to organizational policies, collective bargaining agreement and applicable laws.
- Interviews, hires, and trains employees; plans, schedules, assigns, and directs work according to the current collective bargaining agreement and work rules; evaluates and manages employee performance; addresses complaints and resolves employee issues.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Associate degree in business management, project management, engineering, logistics, finance, or a related field is preferred.
- Six or more years of large vehicle procurement and fleet servicing/management experience and supervisory/management experience, preferably in a union environment.
- An equivalent combination of accredited secondary education and or experience may be considered.
- Valid driver’s license is required.
