POSITION PURPOSE
The HVAC/Electrical Mechanic performs maintenance and repairs on air conditioning, heating, and electrical systems across all corporate vehicles. The role emphasizes expertise in electrical systems with HVAC as a secondary focus. This position supports the organization's operational efficiency by ensuring all vehicle systems function safely and reliably.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Perform inspections, troubleshooting, cleaning, adjustments, repairs, and maintenance of electrical, air conditioning, and heating components using schematics, operation manuals, and standard tools.
- Conduct preventive and corrective maintenance on vehicle systems, subsystems, and components. Utilize diagnostic tools such as multimeters, pressure gauges, vacuum pumps, and specialized HVAC testing equipment to identify and resolve issues.
- Maintain HVAC and refrigeration systems by conducting inspections, recharging refrigerants, calibrating thermostatic and expansion valves, and ensuring compliance with industry standards.
- Test and repair HVAC service controls, electrical components, and mechanical systems to ensure they meet manufacturers' specifications.
- Respond to emergencies involving vehicle incidents, providing prompt support for vehicle movement or system issues.
- Document maintenance activities accurately and submit reports as required.
- Follow all company safety protocols and industry best practices.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Completion of a formal trade school program or an associate degree in automotive engineering or a related field. P
- EPA Refrigerant Technician certification.
- A minimum of five years of automotive/diesel electrical repair experience.
- Valid Indiana commercial driver’s license (CDL) with passenger and air brake endorsements or the ability to obtain the license within six months of hire.
- ASE Certifications in relevant areas are highly preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

- Expertise in alternative fuel engines, including liquefied natural gas (LNG), compressed natural gas (CNG), hybrid, and electric engines.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing mechanical issues in buses and other vehicles.
- Knowledge of safety principles related to personal protective equipment, chemical handling, and shop cleanliness.
- Proven problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment and interact respectfully with colleagues and supervisors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

- Must be able to prioritize work and arrange schedules to meet deadlines.

- Position requires an individual to rotate from a stationary and an upright position for extended periods.

- Ability to communicate using simple sentences and basic grammar.
- Constant exposure to heavy machinery/equipment, excessive noise, extreme temperatures, fumes/odors, some hazardous materials, and dirt/dust.
- Position requires an individual to occasionally raise and lower objects weighing up to 50 lbs ie. tools and/or equipment
- Must be able to pass all post-offer physical testing and complete all physical job functions as defined in the Functional Job Description.
- Ability to work night and weekend work shifts and overtime on a regular basis due to assignments being picked in accordance with the current Collective Bargaining
Agreement.
