Position Purpose
As a Retail Desk Agent, you will be the face of our retail desk department, providing excellent customer service, handling sales transactions, and assisting customers with various needs. Your attention to detail and commitment to delivering a positive customer experience will be essential. You will play a key role in establishing and managing our customer retail desk and the goal is to provide outstanding customer service while taking care of IndyGo’s customers’ needs.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

- Greet and assist customers with the purchase of bus passes, reloading cards, and other retail items.
- Help customers with MyKey Fare Media accounts, cards, and Apps.
- Provide information and answer general questions about services and products.
- Respond to customer inquiries and issues in a friendly and professional manner.
- Process sales transactions accurately and efficiently using a point-of-sale (POS) system, including credit card processing.
- Ensure that cash handling procedures are followed in a secured, organized manner and maintain a balanced cash drawer.
- Reconcile cashier draws at the end of each shift and report discrepancies.
- Monitor and restock retail items to ensure adequate supplies for customers.
- Report inventory discrepancies to the Retail Desk Supervisor.
- Work collaboratively with the Retail Desk Supervisor and other team members to maintain a smoothly running desk.
- Collaborate with other departments to optimize retail desk efficiency.
- Maintain a high standard of customer service, assisting with complex customer needs.
- Keep the Retail Desk Supervisor informed on issues and problems.
Other Functions
- Ability to communicate effectively with agency (non-agency) finance staff.
- Ability to understand and draft reports, data collection, and reporting procedures.
- Ability to respond quickly to issues and needs.
- Ability to develop effective procedures and perform other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have the following education and/or experience.
- Previous experience in a cashier, data entry, (or a related field preferred) or three plus years of proven experience in a retail or customer service position.
- Relevant work experience is required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

- General knowledge of Windows-based computer systems and Microsoft Office package.
- Basic cash management and inventory control knowledge.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy in cash handling.
- Proficient in using point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer software.
- Ability to express oneself using correct language and grammar effectively and persuasively in a professional, empathetic, and tactful manner, even with difficult customers.
- Above average mathematical abilities (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages), including the ability to apply principles of algebra.
- Basic knowledge or fluency in Spanish, Haitian Creole, and Hakha Chin is highly desired.
- Excellent problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work weekends and evenings as needed.
- Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage tasks and time effectively and adjust priorities quickly as circumstances dictate.
- Ability to maintain attendance within policy.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new procedures and technology.
