The Olefins & Polymers USA division of INEOS USA LLC (O&P) ranks among North America's largest producers of olefins and polyolefins. Within this division, the Pipeline Supply Organization (PSO) manages the Stratton Ridge (SR) salt dome storage facility, the Hobbs Fractionation Complex (HFC), and over 500 miles of pipelines in the South Texas area. The Hobbs Fractionation Complex is responsible for separating Y-Grade NGLs and producing C2s, C3s, and C4 , playing a crucial role in the CBW supply portfolio. The Stratton Ridge salt dome storage facility stores various feedstocks and products, seamlessly integrating with the pipeline systems for efficient transport and distribution.Â
How the Role Fits In :
The Cathodic Protection Technician will support pipeline operations across multiple locations of responsibility. The position is in place to assure that all INEOS pipelines and facilities are cathodically protected to prevent personal injury to humans, animals, and property; to protect company assets for long term use; and in coordination with other pipeline operators, to find potential issues and correct all problem areas.
This role is critical to the ongoing safe operation of the nearly 520 miles of regulated pipelines operated by the Pipeline Supply Organization. Assurance of proper cathodic protection is a regulatory requirement as outlined by Texas Railroad Commission and PHMSA rules. The complex nature of the pipeline networks within Southeast Texas requires good coordination with other pipeline operators as well as with numerous utility operators.
Responsibilities AND Accountabilities
Accountability 1:Â Oversee the proper design, installation, operation, and maintenance of cathodic protection equipment
- Supports the PSO integrity team with CP design and operational items related to projects, repairs and other needs
- Supports on site pipeline technicians with information related to the maintenance of the CP systems
Accountability 2: Gather and analyze cathodic protection data
- Routinely collect CP information to ensure CP systems are active, properly operating and continuous across each pipeline system
- Notify pipeline integrity manager and field personnel regarding deficiencies with the system
Accountability 3: Coordinate and oversee bi-monthly rectifier readings and annual cathodic surveys
- Ensures compliance with both internal and regulatory requirements for bi-monthly and annual cathodic surveys
- Engage with service providers to ensure that surveys are completed timely and in agreement with PSO procedures
Skills & Knowledge Required
Level of Education & Experience
- Minimum High School Diploma with 5 years in pipeline operations/maintenance experience including cathodic protection measurement.Â
- Currently maintains NACE CP1 cathodic protection tester certification and preferably NACE CP 2 cathodic protection technician certification. Individual must be able to complete CP 2 training within 12 months of the hire date.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screen and background checks. Upon employment, will be subject to random drug testing in compliance with federal, state and company guidelines.
- Must possess or be able to attain a valid government TWIC card
- Valid State driver's license, including an MVR record that is deemed acceptable by the company.
Preferred (but not required):
- NACE CP 2 cathodic protection technician certification
Skills and Knowledge
- Successfully complete company’s locator training program and pass applicable written and field tests
- Develop general knowledge of State and Local cathodic protection regulations
- Develop general knowledge of utility construction patterns and layout
- Learn and apply safety measures relating to motor vehicle operations, manhole entry and other field related matters
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Excel
Behavioral skills
- Must be self-motivated
- Must have good communication skills when speaking to landowners / owners' employees, CP coordinators from other pipeline companies, and contractors
- Ability to self-regulate work and manage priorities without daily supervision
- Ability to communicate with supervisory pipeline members regarding issues with cathodic protection or other pipeline integrity issues
