The Position: Chemical Process Technician - Chemical Process Technician - This entry-level position has responsibilities of loading hopper cars and trucks, including operation and maintenance of associated equipment, while acquiring necessary skills to advance through the Operations Progression System to a minimum of Tech Level 3 within the expected time required and accomplished while following SHE Excellence, 20 Principles, and Life Saving Rules.
What You Will Do
- Perform production unit responsibilities to meet scheduled production and daily tasks.
- Load and unload hopper cars, trucks, and railcars with MMA and Mineral Oil.
- Operate and maintain equipment such as transfer systems, shuttle wagons, and fork trucks.
- Assist with equipment maintenance, permit management, and system preparations.
- Support routine start-up and shutdown of reactors and systems.
- Monitor process performance (e.g., samples, levels, temperature) and take corrective actions.
- Maintain accurate records, including production logs, inventories, and instrument readings.
- Follow safety, quality, and ISO standards while completing required training and progression milestones.
- Level of education & knowledge:
- High school diploma/GED (minimum).
- College-level or technical certification preferred.
- Experience in general:
- Chemical or manufacturing plant experience required.
- Technical skills:
- Commitment to advancing to at least Tech Level 3 in the Operations Progression System.
- Ability to quickly learn processes, procedures, and equipment.
- Proficiency in computers, email, and role-specific software.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and basic math skills.
- Understanding and adherence to SHE (Safety, Health, and Environmental) principles.
- Competencies, Behavioral skills:
- Commit to INEOS Styrolution’s 20 Principles of Process and Behavioral Safety and Life-Saving Rules.
- Follow SHE policies, Safe Work Guidelines, and exercise Stop Work Authority.
- Report safety incidents, alarm activations, and operating exceedances.
- Participate in incident investigations, Management of Change, and Process Hazard Analysis/LOPA.
- Take ownership of responsibilities with self-motivation and a commitment to continuous learning.
- Demonstrate strong communication, interpersonal skills, and accuracy in documentation.
- Maintain high housekeeping standards and adapt well in cross-functional team environments.
- Physical demands:
- Perform physical tasks such as bending, stooping, kneeling, twisting, turning valves, and repetitive motions.
- Ascend/descend stairs and ladders (up to 85 feet) and work in confined spaces.
- Work 12-hour rotating shifts, including nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
- Work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, occasionally around high noise, machinery, and chemicals.
- Wear required PPE, including steel-toed shoes, safety glasses, hearing protection, and fall protection.
- Lift and push/pull objects up to 50 lbs. multiple times daily.
- Maintain focus, judgment, and alertness in a safety-critical role, free from impairment.
