- Assists a pathologist inpost-mortem examination or autopsy to determine the cause of death.
- Assists in the preparation andunclothing of body for autopsy or post-mortem examination and maintain andsafeguard clothing in an adequate, evidentiary status.
- Prepares, labels, or packages clothing, personal effects or other articles, or items received with, in or onthe body.
- Receives, stores, and disposesof non-human remains or specimenthereof, after completion of post-mortem examination, autopsy, or testingprocedures.
- Manages the handling, routing and disposition of all cadavers in the morgue; cleaning of the morgue and morguerefrigerators, and presentation and release of identified or registered bodiesto undertakers.
- Responsible for the safety andsanitation of cadavers and morgue facilities; guides new technicians in safetyrules and sanitation procedures.
- Attends to the fixation orrefrigeration, or special handling of submitted specimens and tissues removedat autopsies, including specimens for post mortem toxicology analysis andprepares solutions for the preservation of specimens and tissues.
- Prepares and maintains apermanent inventory of reagents and supplies utilized in the morgue; requestreplenishment as indicated on inventory file.
- Prepares reports on casesreceived and disposed, as required for operating analysis and workdistribution.
- Maintains essential records andfiles of materials processed, specimens and bodies received and theirdisposition.
- Assists physicians with forensicpost-mortem examinations and evisceration in accordance with instructionsdelegated by standard autopsy procedures.
- Provides Forensic Photographysupport in the Autopsy Suite as required.
- Follows all morgue and safetystandard operation procedures in the handling of decedent remains and samplestaken for testing, ensuring that chains of custody are not breached.
- Transport specimens to localhospitals for testing.
- Provides support to the BodyRelease Office as required.
- Will be required to learn how toutilize various types of electronic and / or manual recording and informationsystems used by the agency, office, or related units.
PHYSICALREQUIREMENTS
Must be able to lift and manipulate humanremains as needed to remove from the place of death and for the completion ofpostmortem examinations. Must be able towithstand prolonged hours of standing.
