Mechanic (Diesel Engine/Heavy Equipment)

Apex Truck and Tractor is seeking a skilled Mechanic capable of diagnosing and solving issues for various types of heavy equipment and aggregate trucks, including bulldozers, graders, excavators, tandems, and dump trucks. The successful candidate will perform repairs in the field and in the shop for major repairs. This role requires working in diverse weather conditions with exposure to outdoor elements.

Responsibilities:

• Diagnose and repair a variety of heavy equipment and aggregate trucks, including bulldozers, graders, and excavators
• Operate in a safe and efficient manner, adhering to all PPE and process requirements
• Assess equipment condition and perform on-site repairs when feasible
• Communicate mechanical issues and required repairs to shop management, foremen, and superintendents
• Drive a mobile repair vehicle to job sites, complying with all DOT regulations
• Perform work safely, being mindful of potential road and job site hazards
• Adapt to changing tasks and duties as work conditions require
• Support the shop and other mechanics when not on call
• Perform all other duties as assigned
  
  

Qualifications:

• 10-15 years of experience working on construction equipment and diesel engines
• 10-15 years of field service truck experience preferred
• Comprehensive knowledge of diesel equipment operation and capabilities
• Proficient computer skills
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with a proactive approach to finding solutions
• Ability to work independently
• Physical capability to lift components up to 50 pounds, climb stairs and ladders, and move in various body positions
• Logical thinking and problem-solving abilities
• Good perceptual skills for judging distances
• Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical exam, comprehensive background check, MVR (motor vehicle record) check, and proof of employment eligibility (E-Verify)
• Valid Driver’s License required
• CDL A or B preferred but not required
  
  

Compensation:

Compensation will be determined based on prior work experience. Apex Truck and Tractor is committed to offering competitive wages in the Sedgwick County area.
