General Job Summary:
Under the general direction of the Hospital Services Director or designee, the Hospital Services Intern will actively support the Hospital Services team's initiatives, contributing to the organization's mission of fostering strong hospital partnerships and improving donation outcomes. Throughout the internship, the intern will gain hands-on experience in hospital engagement, process improvement, and healthcare operations, assisting with meaningful projects that enhance collaboration between the organization and hospital partners. This role will also include administrative support for the Hospital Services department as needed.
The Hospital Services Intern must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week and never should exceed 40 hours per week. Flexibility in scheduling is required. The typical schedule will be Monday – Friday during normal business hours, with occasional on-site hospital visits or events as needed.
Education and Experience:
- Candidates for the HS Intern position are individuals who are currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree with majors preferably in Public Health, Nursing, Medicine, or related fields.
- Currently enrolled in college.
- Must have a strong interest in healthcare; organ donation and/or transplantation.
- Previous event volunteer experience is a strong plus.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Database experience preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- A team player with a can-do attitude.
- GPA minimum of 3.0.
- Valid driver’s license, automobile and ability to travel throughout the state of Maryland.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Conduct research on hospital policies, donation processes, and healthcare best practices, gathering data and contributing to reports or presentations.
- Assist in the development and implementation of hospital education programs and initiatives to enhance donation awareness and process efficiency.
- Participate in hospital outreach activities to strengthen relationships with healthcare partners and promote organ and tissue donation.
- Collaborate with team members to organize and support hospital-focused training sessions, meetings, and educational events.
- Provide support in data entry, analysis, and evaluation of hospital donation metrics and performance improvement initiatives.
- Assist in coordinating hospital engagement efforts, including on-site visits, hospital audits, and process improvement projects.
- Engage in hospital staff surveys and feedback collection to assess needs and identify opportunities for program enhancement.
- Collaborate with hospital administrators, medical professionals, and other stakeholders to foster strong partnerships and improve donation processes.
- Participate in team meetings and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge of hospital operations and donation protocols.
- Work closely with the Hospital Services team and provide administrative support as needed.
Working Conditions:
- Works in office/field where there are no physical discomforts due to temperature, noise, dust, etc.
- Attention to detail and use of a CRT screen may produce mental and visual fatigue.
- Travel to meetings, presentations and other appointments.
- This position is Level 2 – Minimal level of exposure to Blood-borne Pathogens and TB. Employees may at times be in a hospital setting and may have exposure to packaged organs and tissues for transplant and/or research.
