The Piping Drafter position is responsible for the preparation of construction drawings using AutoCAD and various other software supplementary to the process focused on the piping systems. With the guidance of the project team, pipe drafter will able to produce drawings to illustrate the work to be performed in the field that complies with contract requirements and local codes.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Set up and maintain an organized filing system for drawings and supplementary documents.
- Develop and adhere to piping standards and work methodologies.
- Track and monitor changes to project scope and schedule.
- Maintain up to date electronic drawings log.
- Compile and organize blocks, parts, and specific details.
- Establish man-hour estimates, schedules, and drafting priorities.
- Provide updates to the drafting schedule.
- Report progress of work assignments to the immediate supervisor.
- Establish and enforce supplementary document requirements for drawing production.
- Participate in the internal/external coordination meetings.
- Utilize contract documents, models, and vendor data to prepare 2D and 3D constructible models, piping layout drawings, isometric drawings, and spool sheet drawings.
- Develop bill-of-materials to support the assembly process and material procurement.
- Revise the original mechanical drawings from marked-up prints or as directed by engineers and project teams.
- Identify potential constructability issues and technical problems, redesign layouts to improve functionality.
- Utilize knowledge of various engineering and construction practices, building materials, and equipment to complete the drawings.
- Review drawings for accuracy and adherence to client standards.
- Comply with all applicable construction practices, regulations, and procedures.
- Ensure compliance with internal drafting and engineering standards.
- Perform quality work within deadlines with or without direct supervision.
- Visit job sites to verify work, equipment, and field conditions; follow safety rules, guidelines, and standards.
Qualifications and Skills
- A minimum of 1-2 years of pipe drafting experience
- Ability to work in a multi-task environment
- Strong oral and written communication
- Excellent time management skills
- Ability to understand construction details
- Must demonstrate experience and knowledge of AutoCAD MEP with 3D layouts
