Job Summary
Position Summary:
The Athletic Trainer will work under the supervision of a physician and apply principles, methods, and procedures for managing athletic injuries. This includes preconditioning, conditioning, and reconditioning athletes who have suffered an injury through the use of appropriate preventative and supportive devices. The role will involve providing instruction and support to coaches, athletes, parents, medical personnel, and communication teams in the care and prevention of athletic injuries. You will work both in school systems and in a physician or hospital clinic to support patient care. The Athletic Trainer will provide coverage for sporting events based on the Health System contract and the schedule provided by the hiring organization.
This is an hourly position, so overtime pay is available.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply principles and methods to manage athletic injuries, including preconditioning and reconditioning.
- Work with athletes, coaches, and medical teams to ensure the prevention and care of athletic injuries.
- Provide coverage at sporting events as agreed upon by the Health System contract.
- Work in a physician or hospital clinic to support patient care.
- Educate and collaborate with athletes, coaches, parents, and medical staff on injury prevention and care.
- Follow all regulations and protocols to ensure the highest standards of care for athletes.
Qualifications:
Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Sports Medicine or a related field.
- Preferred: Master’s Degree in Athletic Training.
Licenses & Certifications:
- New York State Registration and License as a Certified Athletic Trainer (NYS-CAT).
- NATABOC Certification (National Athletic Trainers' Association Board of Certification).
- BLS Certification (Basic Life Support) required, obtained through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
Work Experience:
- Minimum: 21 years of age or older (per NYS regulations).
- Preferred: 1-2 years of experience as an Athletic Trainer in a high school or physician practice setting.

- Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
- Strong time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
- Team-oriented with the ability to model teamwork and flexibility in work sites, schedules, and duties.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- Computer literacy, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheets, and PowerPoint.
- Preferred:
- Experience with Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
