Position Summary:
We are seeking an experienced Emergency Nurse Manager to oversee two Emergency Departments. This role involves ensuring uncompromising quality, exceptional patient safety, and a superior patient/family experience while fostering an environment of staff development, empowerment, and collaboration. The Nurse Manager will allocate resources efficiently and effectively, promoting compassionate and fiscally responsible nursing care. The position will also oversee coordination across departments to encourage interdisciplinary communication and collaboration.
The Nurse Manager will be responsible for the recruitment, selection, and retention of personnel, while ensuring ongoing orientation, education, credentialing, and professional development for nursing staff. Additionally, this role includes the supervision and oversight of the Emergency Department, Hospital Clinical Leaders, and Medic 55 ALS Program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the operations of two Emergency Departments, ensuring high standards of patient care and operational efficiency.
- Implement strategies and activities to achieve quality, patient safety, and exceptional patient/family experience.
- Foster an environment that encourages staff development, empowerment, and collaborative practice.
- Allocate resources to ensure effective, compassionate, and fiscally responsible care delivery.
- Coordinate care across departments to promote interdisciplinary collaboration.
- Participate in recruitment, selection, and retention processes, and oversee staff orientation and continuing education.
- Supervise and provide oversight for Emergency Department operations, including the Hospital Clinical Leaders and Medic 55 ALS Program.
Required Qualifications:
- Education: Graduate from an accredited Registered Professional Nurse Program; Master's in Nursing or related field.
- License: Current New York State license to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse.
- Certifications:
- BLS, ACLS, and PALS required through the RQI system during clinical orientation.
- Basic Coronary Care within 6 months of hire.
- CPI certification within 90 days of hire.
- TNCC required within 18 months of hire.
- Work Experience:
- Minimum of 3-4 years of experience as a Registered Nurse.
- At least 18 months of RN experience in an Emergency Department.
- Preferred Experience:
- 1 year of management/leadership experience in a healthcare setting.
Skills & Competencies:
- Required:
- Competency in moderate sedation within six months of hire.
- Strong interpersonal skills for effective communication with staff, patients, families, physicians, and other healthcare team members.
- Ability to lead and foster a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Knowledge of management systems and processes, with strong analytical skills for assessing departmental needs and implementing interventions.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, manage multiple priorities, and facilitate project management.
- Familiarity with The Joint Commission requirements.
- Proficiency in computer literacy, including word processing and spreadsheets.
- Preferred:
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Meditech.
